Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. A group of Senate Democrats have agreed to a deal with Republicans that could reopen federal agencies and end the government shutdown. But as NPR's Claudia Grasolos reports, the plan still has a long way to go before it can clear both chambers of Congress. In the end, seven rank-in-file Senate Democrats and one independent joined Republicans to vote yes to move forward on the bipartisan plan. They say includes a list of wins.

The bipartisan package includes a stopgap measure to fund the government through the end of January and includes full appropriations funding plans for some government services and agencies, including agriculture and veterans affairs. The deal pauses plan cuts to snap, reverses federal worker layoffs conducted during the shutdown and installs new protections from more cuts to that workforce through the end of January. Most Senate Democrats, however, voted no. And House Democrats say they're against it because the plan does not address the Affordable Care Act's higher premiums. NPR News. Hamas has returned the body of another Israeli soldier, but it's not a soldier killed and taken into Gaza on October 7, 2023. It's a soldier from a previous Gaza conflict. The Israeli Prime Minister's office says forensic tests show the latest human remains returned to Israel belonged to Hadar Golding, an Israeli soldier killed in action in Gaza in 2014, and then held there for more than 11 years. Golden had become a national symbol. His parents waged a long public campaign. A hostage forum says the, quote, people of Israel have walked beside them in their struggle. The Israeli military published photos of Golden's flag-draped coffin. This is a boost for the U.S. brokered ceasefire in Gaza, under which Israel is now required to return the bodies of 15 Palestinians it has been holding. Lauren Freyer and PR News Tel Aviv. Super Typhoon Fung Wong has left a trail of destruction in the Philippines as it's headed out to sea after killing at least two people. More than 1.4 million people were also evacuated before the storm hit and several hundred thousand people remain in emergency shelters at this hour. Michael Sullivan has more in that story. Feng Wong weakened overnight after coming ashore in northeastern Aurora province with sustained winds of at least 115 miles per hour and gusts up to more than 150. It knocked out power to entire provinces and set off floods and landsluds before it left the Philippines into the South China Sea heading northwest towards Taiwan. Michael Sullivan with that report.

There were a lot of frustrated travelers Sunday as more than 2100 flights were canceled because of a shortage of air traffic controllers. More than 7,000 other flights face delays. And Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned Sunday that air traffic could slow even further if the government shutdown continues into the holiday weekend. You're listening to NPR News. The company that produces Whole Nutritional Infant Formula has announced a recall of the product. The formula has been linked to 13 cases of infant botulism found in 10 states.

All 13 were hospitalized after consuming the formula from two different lots. The movie Predator Badlands took the top spot at North American box offices this weekend, bringing in $40 million in ticket sales. That's the best opening weekend ever for the series. Predator also brought in another 40 million an overseas sales. sales.
