Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Corva Coleman. The Senate has passed a short-term government funding measure and sent it to the House. It's aimed in ending the federal government shutdown. The measure would fund the federal government through January 30th. House lawmakers are returning to take up the measure. A company in Mississippi, Cal Main, is donating more than 10,000 eggs to food pantry distributors in that state. The shutdown has interrupted food benefits known as SNAP. From Mississippi public broadcasting, Shamir Muhammad has more.

13% of Mississippi's population relies on SNAP benefits. Cassandra Mowgli, interim CEO of the Mississippi Food Network, says food partners around the state accepted the egg donation swiftly. Our 5,400 dozen donation was gone in three text messages. Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gibson says the freeze and SNAP benefits has also hit farmers. We have to start looking at innovative ways. that we can be prepared for this type of a federal shutdown in the future. Mississippi has announced it will begin to distribute 65% of SNAP benefits.

For NPR News, I'm Shamir Mohamed and Jackson. President Trump is floating an idea that might help buyers purchase a home. He was asked about it yesterday in an appearance on Fox's The Ingram angle with host Laura Ingram. It's not even a big deal. I mean, you know, you go from 40 to 50 years. And what it means is you pay, you pay something less from 30. that some people had a 40 and then now they have a 50. All it means is you pay less per month.

You pay it over a longer period of time. It's not like a big factor. The chief economist for the National Association of Realtors has this view. Lawrence Yun says that home buyers may see small monthly savings on payments with a 50-year mortgage. But most of the upfront money would go to interest. And it would take borrowers almost 40 years of the 50-year mortgage to pay off just half of their balance. Yemen-Suthi rebels have sent. a letter to Hamas. The Houthis indicate they have halted their attacks on Israel and on

Red Sea shipping routes. That's as long as a shaky ceasefire holds in Gaza. And Pierre's Lauren Freya reports from Tel Aviv. Hamas's armed wing has published a letter online that it says it received from the Houthis. In it, the rebels say they're closely monitoring developments and threaten to return to military operations if the, quote, enemy, Israel, resumes its quote, aggression against Gaza. The letter signed by the Houthi military's chief of staff. During the Gaza war, Houthi attacks sank ships, killed mariners and disrupted global supply routes through the Red Sea and Suez Canal. The U.S. and Israel have bombed Houthi targets in Yemen in response. But the Houthis have not claimed responsibility for any attacks in more than a month.

This letter is their clearest indication yet that the pause is in coordination with the Gaza ceasefire. Lauren Freyer and PR News Tel Aviv. On Wall Street, in pre-market trading, Dow Futures are flat. This is NPR. Fast food chain Wendy's says it will close several hundred of its restaurants as part of a financial turnaround effort. There are some 6,000 Wendy's restaurant locations in the U.S. It's not clear which restaurants will be closed.

The novel, Flesh, by author David Salloy, has won this year's Booker Prize. This goes to the best English-language book published in the United Kingdom. NPR's Andrew Limbong reports the judges said they had never read anything quite like it. The novel follows a Hungarian man named Isvan from his teen years through old age. He's quiet, not the most emotive character, but that's all covering up a tumultuous life. The Booker Prize judges praise author David Saloy's sparse use of language. In a statement, Price Chair Roddy Doyle said, quote, Every word matters, the spaces between the words matter.

Salloy is the first Hungarian British author to win the award. He was shortlisted for the prize back in 2016 for his book All That Man is. Flesh beat out five other novels for the win, including Katie Kidamore's audition and Susan Choi's flashlight. Winners of the Booker Prize received 50,000 British pounds and usually a hefty bump in sales. Andrew Limbong and Pear News. This is Veterans Day. He will lay a wreath. Today is also the anniversary of an end to fighting in World War War I. one with the signing of an armistice between the Allies and Germany.
