Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Korova Coleman. House Republicans are gearing up to implement President-elect Donald Trump's legislative
agenda.
Trump met with the GOP conference ahead of their unanimous vote yesterday to reelect
Mike Johnson as incoming speaker.
NPR's Barbara Sprunt reports this comes as Republicans are poised to retain control of
the House.
Speaker Johnson credited Trump's visit to the conference with setting the tone for what
he called a productive day.
It was a bit of a pep rally.
Everybody feels very confident, very encouraged
about the days ahead.
And he gave us a very inspirational message.
And he talked about the importance of maintaining unity
and standing with this leadership team to go forward.
GOP lawmakers spent the day electing their new leadership
team and reacting to the news that Florida member Matt Gaetz is being tapped as Trump's attorney general.
Johnson said Gaetz gave him his resignation letter, effective immediately.

President-elect Trump also says he'll nominate former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard to be the
director of national intelligence.
She's a former lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve and a former presidential candidate. In Israel, a court has rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request
to delay his corruption trial amid war. Netanyahu will testify in court on December 2nd as NPR's
Daniel Estrin reports from Tel Aviv.
Netanyahu's lawyers argued he didn't have enough time to prepare his testimony because
of the wars with Hamas and Hezbollah.
The judges in his case said they gave Netanyahu five months to prepare and that the circumstances
of the war had not changed significantly to justify a delay.
The trial has lasted more than four years and concerns his alleged dealmaking with media
moguls for positive press coverage.
In a new development, Israeli authorities are investigating Netanyahu's inner circle. Israeli media report allegations that classified information was leaked about the Gaza War
to benefit Netanyahu.
Netanyahu denies wrongdoing.

Crisis hotlines serving the LGBTQ plus community have become overwhelmed following last week's
election with phone calls from people concerned about physical and mental health. And
Bears Windsor-Johnston spoke to an influencer trying to help members of
the LGBTQ community. 43 year old Mia Bertrand is a bisexual black woman who
creates content on TikTok for a living. She says she's received a number of
threats before and after the election.
I have gotten it from the racist side as well as the homophobic side.
It's hard to understand that people just hate you for who you love or how you were born.
The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization that serves the LGBTQ plus community is reporting a spike
in calls to its hotline.
The group says calls increased by 700% the day after the election from some young people
needing support.

introduces children and families to a main character with autism.
The network says Carl the Collector is its first program featuring central characters who are neurodivergent.
NPR's Kristen Wright has more.
It's Carl Wright has more.
It's Carl, the collector.
The show follows the adventures of Carl the Collector, a raccoon who has autism and loves
to collect things, from bottle caps to fake mustaches.
Carl's ability to pay very close attention to detail helps him think of great ideas.
His friends are neurodivergent like him and neurotypical.
Groups like the
National Autism Association have been pushing for representation on screen
for a long time, says co-founder Lori McElwain. The more that it's out there, the
more you know we're going to learn from from the very early age about you know
the importance of accepting and embracing those differences. The show's
production team includes neurodiverse writers and advisors, and Carl himself is
voiced by an autistic actor.

The NBA San Antonio Spurs say that Hall of Fame coach Greg Popovich suffered a mild stroke
earlier this month.
He has stepped away to focus on his health, and it's not been announced when he will return. The news came as Spurs player Victor Wimbenyama scored a career-high
50 points last night. The Spurs beat the Washington Wizards 139 to 130.
