President-elect Donald Trump is turning once more to the stars of Fox News
to stock his second administration. As NPR's media correspondent David Falkenflick reports,
the former and future president is a close watcher of TV news.
Pete Hegseth to the Pentagon. He's been a host of Fox and Friends Weekend. Trump's pick
for the director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Sure, she was a Democratic member
of the House of Representatives, but she became a paid Fox commentator. Trump's choice over Homeland Security, Tom Homan,
also a commentator. Ambassador to Israel designate Mike Huckabee had a weekly show after his
unsuccessful run for the White House in 2012, while others have effectively auditioned on Fox.
Trump selected cable news warrior Matt Gaetz to be his attorney general. And Robert F. Kennedy
popped up on Fox repeatedly to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris from the left. Now,
Kennedy's the Trump choice to run the Department of Health and Human Services.

President-elect Trump made official his nomination of North Dakota Governor Doug Berman to be
Secretary of the Department of the Interior, also announcing an expanded role for the Interior
Secretary, which would include seating that person under the National Security Council.
The Interior Department manages nearly 25 percent of all U.S. energy development in
the U.S. It owns nearly a fifth of U.S. surface lands and issues leases to develop an even
larger portion of the nation's mineral rights. By selecting Burgum to lead Interior, Trump
may be indicating public lands available for business, a stance he took in his
previous administration. The ongoing COP29 climate talks in Azerbaijan mark
nearly three decades of world leaders meeting annually to hash out plans to
limit planet warming emissions, but the earth is still on track for a dangerous
amount of warming. And here's Michael Copley reports there are calls to change the UN process for dealing
with climate change.
The group of scientists and advocates say countries need to shift from negotiations
to action on the climate commitments they've already made.
The group is pushing for smaller, more frequent meetings that hold countries accountable.
And it says the meeting should be hosted by nations that support a transition from fossil
fuels, the main source of climate pollution.
The lead negotiator for the presidency of this year's climate meeting in Azerbaijan,
Yelkin Rafyev, defended the negotiations.
It's better than any alternative, taking into account that we don't have any alternative
processes.
Rafyev urged negotiators to move faster on a plan to help developing countries deal with
climate change.

Former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson fights wealthy YouTube star turned pro boxer
Jake Paul tonight in a match for Netflix.
NPR TV critic Eric Deggans says the fight in Arlington, Texas may also reveal more of
Netflix's strategy for presenting live sports.
Netflix has hyped tonight's match between Tyson and Paul with a series of mini-documentaries
where narrator Ice T. points out the obvious about the former heavyweight champ. Now here he is, against a man less than half his age, with a date in the ring in Texas, and we can't look away.
Tyson 58 faces 27-year-old Paul in a match designed to draw viewers across generations.
Fans of Paul, who started boxing professionally in 2020, may not have even been alive when Tyson last fought professionally
19 years ago.
The fight, delayed from July due to Tyson's ulcer problems, is among Netflix's growing
live sports offerings, including two Christmas Day NFL games.

Scientists now say new research has confirmed volcanoes erupted on the far side of the moon
billions of years ago.
Researchers say in analyzing soil samples brought back by China's Chang'e spacecraft,
they found fragments of volcanic rock that were around 2.8 billion years old, some even older.
Previous studies have indicated the moon might have had a volcanic pass,
but researchers say the latest analysis proves it.
Findings were published in the journals Nature and Science.
Critical futures prices gave back some of their recent gains.
Oil dropped $1.68 a barrel to $6702 a barrel in New York.
