A Southwest Airlines flight scheduled for takeoff was struck by a bullet at Dallas'
Love Field Airport Friday night.
NPR's Dave Mistich has our details.
A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines says Flight 2494 taxied safely back to the terminal
after being struck just under the flight deck.
The company says the crew was preparing the flight for departure for Indianapolis.
Southwest says law enforcement authorities have been informed and the plane has been removed from service. In a post on
social media, Lovefield says the runway was temporarily closed, but has since reopened,
leaving minimal impact on airport operations. They also say no injuries were reported.
That's NPR's Dave Mistich. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said Friday that the
will of the American people
was heard on election day.
But he said that does not mean Democrats will give up.
He pledged to push back on any far-right plans,
and the New York congressman said
he was most concerned with the announced Trump cabinets.
Are some of these nominations a real path forward
to solving problems for everyday Americans?
That's the question that I've been grappling with.
Jeffries has been particularly critical of Trump's nomination of Robert Kennedy Jr.
to run Health and Human Services.
Immigration advocacy groups are organizing in response to potential mass deportations
expected under President-elect Donald Trump's second term.
The Mountain West News Bureau's Yvette Fernandez has more.
Trump has vowed to carry out, quote, the largest mass deportation in history.
Leo Murrieta with Make the Road Action Nevada recalled the 1954 military-style operation
to remove thousands of Mexicans who had crossed into the U.S. in search of work.
Our communities have seen the failure of state agencies, the failure of municipalities, of
institutions of learning, hospitals and others, and law enforcement when they have betrayed
immigrant communities in the past and mass deportations have happened.
Advocacy groups are calling for local and state agencies not to share information with
federal immigration
enforcement officers.

President-elect Trump says that North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum will head a newly created
National Energy Council.
He says the new council will seek to establish U.S. energy dominance around the world.
The U.S. is already the world's number one oil producer though. Trump had already said he will nominate
Burgum to head the Interior Department in his new administration.
YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul has won a unanimous decision over former
heavyweight champion Mike Tyson that happened last night.
The match was held at the home of the Dallas Cowboys
and it wasn't close.
One judge scoring the fight gave it 80 to 72 for Paul. The other two judges called it 79 to 73.
Tyson is 58 years old after the match. He said he may consider another fight. This is NPR News.
President Joe Biden is in Peru preparing for an important meeting later today at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.
It's one of his last gatherings with world leaders before President-elect Trump takes office. NPR's Carrie Khan reports.
Peruvian President Dina Boloarte, who is seldom seen in public and is highly unpopular at home, urged dignitaries to work toward more inclusive economic policies. Chinese President Xi Jinping came a day early to Peru
to inaugurate one of China's biggest investments in South America,
a $1.3 billion megaport north of Lima, the capital.
Xi is expected to meet one-on-one with President Biden Saturday.
China has passed the U.S. as Peru's largest trading partner.
The new port will be a major shipping hub between Asia and South America. China has pledged even more major infrastructure projects
in the region drawing concern from the U.S. which has not invested at the same level in
Latin America. Carrie Kahn, NPR News.
A medieval statue of the Virgin Mary and Child was returned to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris
Friday night. The statue, known as the Virgin of Paris, was removed after surviving a major fire that
destroyed much of the cathedral in 2019.
The statue's return began with a torch lit procession, which was attended by hundreds
of faithful and area residents.
Gina Ariema can break the NCAA Division I record for wins in men's or women's basketball
when UConn plays next Wednesday.
The 70-year-old coach notched his 1200th, 16th win on Friday
when the Huskies beat North Carolina 69-58.
He has an 88.2% win rate at UConn where he is in his 40th season as head coach.
