Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. President Trump met with New York City mayor-elect Zoran Mondani at the White House today. NPR's Frank Ordonez reports on the surprisingly gracious sit-down that came after weeks of heated rhetoric between the two men. President Trump had threatened to cut funding if Mondani was elected and called him as little communist mayor. Mondani had described himself as Donald Trump's worst nightmare. But on Friday, they were both full of smiles and prime. promises to partner together on lowering the cost of housing and groceries for New Yorkers. I expect to be helping him, not hurting him.

A big help, because I want New York City to be great. Look, I love New York City. It's where I come from. I spent a lot of years there. Now I'm right here. Both have a mutual interest in playing nice. Mondani wants to protect federal funding for New York City. And Trump is looking to get in on Mondani's affordability message.

Franco, Ordoñez, and P.R. News, the White House. Representative Marjorie Taylor Green says she'll resign from Congress on January 5th. Green rose to prominence as one of Trump, President Trump's biggest supporters, but over the past several months, the two have regularly fought, in particular, over the release of the Epstein files. In a video announcing a decision, Green said she was tired of being called traitor and wacky. I refuse to be a battered wife, hoping it all goes away and gets better. If I am cast aside by the president and the MAGA political machine and replaced by neocons big pharma, big tech, military industrial war complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class that can never, ever relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well. Green also said Republicans are likely to lose next year's midterm elections.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is allowing the recently redrawn map of congressional districts in Texas to go into effects, at least for now. It's the latest move in a gerrymandering fight begun by President Trump to try to keep Republicans in control of the House of Representatives. As NPR's Hansi Lo Wong tells us, Texas had appealed a lower court order that had blocked that new map from taking effects. The court found the map's challenges are likely to prove in a trial that the map is an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. It's because multiples have Republican lawmakers made public statements suggesting they passed it

to eliminate existing districts where black and Latino voters together make up the majority. But in Texas' appeals to the Supreme Court, the state claims that lawmakers were not motivated by race and focused instead on drawing new districts that are more likely to elect Republicans. If the Supreme Court clears the way for Texas to use the contested map,

Republicans may be able to pick up five more seats in the U.S. House, but time is running out to change the map for Texas' midterm election. the state's candidate filing deadline is in about two weeks. The third storm in just over a week hit the region.

An officials say the rains could cause mudslides in areas destroyed by recent wildfires. The storms have now moved to the east and south towards Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. This weekend, artists across the country are participating in what they say is creative resistance to authoritarianism. NPR's Anastasia Seulchus has our reports. Fall of Freedom includes more than 600 events across the U.S., ranging from performances of Les Miserables in Portland, Maine, to a zine-making workshop in Homer, Alaska. Fall of Freedom is the brainchild of visual artist Dred Scott. He told NPR that right now, many artists in cultural institutions are feeling. paralyzed by political pressures, he wanted to provide an open-ended framework for them to use

their creativity to feel less isolated. We're trying to say, no, actually, let's all stand up. They might be able to pick one or two of us off, but they can't get us all if we all collectively stand together. Andrew Novak has a one-shot lead after two rounds at the PGA Classic at Sea Island, Georgia this weekend. He made nine birdies on the day to take the lead. Patrick Rogers and Michael Thorbjohnsen are in second at 15 under par. Novak's wife had a baby just two weeks ago, and he joked that playing golf helped him to get out of the house.
