Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. Representative Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia says she'll resign from Congress on January 5th. Green was once a loyal supporter. President Trump, but has offered criticism of him recently, particularly in regard to the Epstein files, NPR Stephen Fowler. It's also worth noting that it's because this split has been a long time coming. Marjorie Taylor Green has been at the forefront of criticisms this year of Republicans who haven't always agreed with Trump 2.0 policy planks. On the foreign policy front, that includes the bombing of Iran in support of Israel's war in Gaza. Domestically, there's been rifts over some of the tariff policies and the subsequent walkbacks the administration's done.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Trump now calls her Marjorie Trader Green, and it said he would endorse a challenger against her in next year's primary elections. A federal judge Friday blocked the Internal Revenue Service from sharing taxpayers' addresses with immigration officials. MPR's Jude Jaffe Black has more. The court order blocks one of the ways the Trump administration has been taking unprecedented steps to share personal data with ICE to boost deportations. Back in August, the IRS turned over the addresses of 47,000 people to ICE. The judge found that data sharing was unlawful. The order bars Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent from sharing confidential taxpayer information with the Department of Homeland Security or its sub-agencies, unless the government is directly engaged in a relevant criminal investigation.
Starting point is 00:01:27 investigation. The orders a victory for the small businesses, unions, and tax assistance non-profit that brought the suit. It's unclear whether the administration will appeal. Jude Jaffe Block, NPR News. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy says his country is facing one of its hardest moments in history. As M.P.R. Zeller Beardsley reports, he's being pressured to sign onto a peace deal that's widely viewed as favoring Russia. Neither Ukraine nor the Europeans knew anything about the 28-point plan, which would require Kyiv to surrender significant territory, reduce the size of its military, and relinquish weapons.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Ukraine may find itself facing a very difficult choice, said Zelensky, either the loss of dignity or the risk of losing a key partner. Zelensky has been trying to negotiate in good faith with the Trump administration, but Ukrainians call this deal a plan for capitulation. European leaders are scrambling to come up with a response. They say a just peace can only happen with Ukraine and the EU at the negotiating table. Eleanor Beardsley in PR News, Leviv, Ukraine. Starting point is 00:02:42 All crew members have been safely evacuated. Officials say more than 100 firefighters are attempting to put out the blaze. The fire caused an explosion, but so far no injuries have been reported. Hazardous materials have been identified. near the fire. You're listening to NPR News. In Nigeria, gunmen have attacked a boarding school and abducted students from their dorm. The attack comes days after the abduction of 25 female students from another boarding school in the neighboring state, as NPR's Jewel Bright reports. Nigeria authorities say the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday at the St. Mary's
Starting point is 00:03:19 Catholic School in Papiri. A massive search and rescue operation is now underway. Local authorities have accused the school of ignoring an order from the government to close all boarding facilities in the area amid intelligence warnings of a heightened risk of abductions. Nigeria has faced a wave of attacks by armed groups in recent weeks. The Trump administration has accused Nigeria's governments of failing to protect civilians and of condoning a genocide against Christians. The Nigerian government denies this and says people of all religions have been victims of attacks. Drew Bright's MPON Newslegas. Four people were shot Friday evening during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Concord, North Carolina, which is northeast of Charlotte. Officials say three of those injured are in critical condition.
