Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. President Joe Biden was on Nantucket today where he made a stop at a local fire department.
He spoke about President-elect Donald Trump's plan to place tariffs on some goods from Mexico and Canada, saying he hopes he rethinks what Biden calls a counterproductive idea.
We have an unusual situation in America. We're surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and two allies, Mexico and Canada.
And the last thing we need to do is begin the screw up of those relationships.
Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are spending their Thanksgiving in New England.
Some immigrants in the U.S. are expressing concerns about President-elect Donald Trump's pledge to carry out mass deportations of those who are in the U.S. illegally once he returns to the White House.
NPR's Sergio Martinez Beltran reports from Carthage, Mississippi.
As Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, Silvia Garcia has a message for them.
She says each piece of vegetable and meat on their tables was harvested or processed by immigrants.
Garcia is from Guatemala and already knows the impact of deportations.
Her husband was removed from the country during a series of raids at poultry plants in central Mississippi in 2019.
The plants shut down temporarily after the raids,
and immigrants feared walking or driving around the town for months.
She says Trump going after unauthorized migrants will affect the lives of Americans
who depend on migrant labor for food, construction and other services.

Ukraine is accusing Russia of using highly destructive cluster munitions in a massive
strike on Ukrainian energy infrastructure today.
NPR's Joannica Kissus reports that Russia says it hits several
targets and plans to strike more. Writing on Telegram, Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy claims Russia's use of cluster munitions is quote a vile
escalation of Russian terrorist tactics. Russia launched 100 drones and 90
missiles at Ukraine early on Thursday. Many hit Ukraine's already damaged energy grid, leaving at least a million people without
power.
Russia has repeatedly struck Ukraine's power grid this year, destroying half of the country's
energy producing capacity.
Speaking at a summit in Kazakhstan, Russian President Vladimir Putin insisted Russia produces
10 times as many missiles as all NATO countries combined
He is threatening more attacks on Ukraine using a new Russian missile. Joanna Kekesis, NPR News

U.S. retailers are getting their game faces on as they prepare for Black Friday.
The annual shopping event is taking on more significance this year because there are five
fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
But while there will be major deals available tomorrow, many retailers have already been
rolling out Black Friday specials for several weeks.
A pug named Vito has won the Best in show at the 2024 National Dog Show.
As NPR's Jackie Northam reports, Vito beat out more than 1900 other dogs at this year's
competition in Philadelphia.
This is the first time a pug has won the National Dog Show since it was televised in 2002.
Vito craned his neck to look up at his handler Michael Scott when the award was announced,
as if trying to understand what all the excitement was about.
Still Scott believes Vito knows he won saying he's very smug I think he knows. The show judge said Vito has a beautiful expression and movement adding that's a lot of dog in a small package.
Vito beat out six other finalists including a clumber spaniel named Houston, Monty a giant schnauzer, an abeasent
hound named the Zit, Rupert a Berger Picard and JJ a lasso apso. Verde a Welsh
terrier captured the second prize known as the reserve best in show. Jackie
Northam, NPR News. Five-time tennis Grand Slam champion
Iguz Shwitek has accepted a one-month suspension after testing positive for a
banned substance.
She had failed a drug test last August but said the problem came from contamination of

The International Tennis Integrity Agency said the violation was at the low end of negligence.
