The open-toe leather sandal, known as the Kolapuri Chapel, is traditionally won by farmers in rural western India.
For years, the Kolapuri Chappal has had a geographical indication tag which offers legal protection to its cultural heritage.
So after Prada appeared to copy the sandal for Milan Fashion Week, Indian artisans filed a case in a state high court for violation of intellectual property.
Following the backlash, Prada acknowledged its designs were inspired by Kolapuris.
Now, Reuters reports that Prada will manufacture 2,000 pairs of the Kolapuri sandals made by Indian.
