An Arctic Blast is bringing frigid temperate.
and snow to the upper Midwest through the northeast. The National Weather Service says accumulating
ice and heavy snow is possible in the area through tomorrow. In Michigan, a quarter inch of
ice is possible in parts of the state and freezing rain could fall in the Mid-Atlantic region tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the New York region is getting its first major winter storm of the season. Bruce Convizer
has more from New Jersey. As the snow started falling, forecasters were predicting two to three inches
across much of New Jersey. By mid-morning, a large swath of the state was buried under six inches of
snow. Travel disruptions were relatively limited as the storm hit early Sunday, but more than 80 flights
were canceled at the three New York City area airports. The snowstorm will clear out but will be
followed by strong winds in a blast of Arctic air. Temperatures will struggle to break through the
freezing point over the next two days. For NPR News, I'm Bruce Confeiser in Greenbrook, New Jersey.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is suing the Federal Health Department over the sudden cancellation of $12 million in grants.
As MPR. Selina Simmons-Duffin reports, the pediatricians allege the grants were canceled in retaliation for speaking out against the department's recent policy changes that could limit access to childhood vaccines.
AAP represents 67,000 pediatricians across the country. The organization has pushed back forcefully.
against the vaccine recommendations implemented by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a long-time
anti-vaccine activist. In the lawsuit, AAP says the Department of Health and Human Services retaliated
against their organization because of that public criticism. The millions in canceled grants supported
work on sudden infant death prevention, rural health, early detection of birth defects, and more.
The lawsuit was filed in federal district court in Washington, D.C., and says that without court
intervention, these programs will end within weeks. HHS did not respond to NPR's request for
comment. Selina Simmons-Duffin, NPR News.
Election officials in Honduras have finally named the winner of the country's presidential
election after more than three weeks of counting the votes. That winner is construction
entrepreneur Nassar S. Fuhra, a conservative candidate backed by President Trump. He won by
less than 1% of the vote. Empir's Ada Peralta has more from Mexico City.
The current president, Zamara Castro, has a tense relationship with the U.S.
When Castro began, when Trump began his immigration crackdown, she threatened to shut down the U.S. base in the country.
And it seems that Trump made a cold calculation that the most robust U.S. ally in Honduras would be the National Party, Asfudas Party.
NPR's Ada Peralta reporting, the election has been clouded by claims of fraud and the loser is refusing to concede.

Officials in Taiwan are monitoring Chinese Coast Guard ships, sailing in restricted waters next to some of its islands.
Such Chinese patrols are increasingly common around Taiwan.
That's according to a new Pentagon report, part of China's effort to erode Taiwan's control of its own waters.
And peers Emily Fang has more.
China says its coast guard ships are near the Taiwanese Kinmen Islands as part of a routine patrol.
Taiwan's Coast Guard dispatched three ships to monitor the.
Chinese group and said sailing in bad weather was, quote, unprofessional and irrational.
The Pentagon says China has increasingly used its coast guard in various Taiwan, the military
exercises and patrols around Taiwan's Kinman Islands, which are very close to China's
eastern shore. The annual Pentagon report on China, which came out this week, noted that
China's overall military has made steady progress towards its goal to be capable of what Beijing
calls a strategic decisive victory over Taiwan. A Democratic Island,
China hopes to one-day control. Emily Fang and Pierre News.
French prosecutors say a pro-Russian hacking group has claimed responsibility for a major cyber
attack on France's national postal service. The attack halted package deliveries just days
before Christmas when a distributed denial of service attack left postal workers not being able
to track packages and online payments were disrupted. The cybercrime group, known as no-name
057, has been linked to other cyber attacks in Europe.
Europe. European allies accuse Russia of raging hybrid warfare to undermine support for Ukraine.
