Starting point is 00:00:00 We're back with another episode of The Bigger Than Me podcast. Here is your host air in Pete. As many of you may know, I am a huge fan of Sean Evans. He is one of my favorite interviewers. His style of asking sharp, pointing questions while wings get hotter and hotter and hotter, push the guests to be more focused. They're overwhelmed by that spice, by that tang, and so they get more and more honest as the interview goes on.
Starting point is 00:00:26 As a fan of his, I wanted to pay tribute to him. by having Tim Srigley on and where we can dive in to some very spicy wings, and we can appreciate the work that goes in to developing an episode of Hot Ones. Sean Evans, I can't appreciate you enough. Your role model to me as an interviewer. I'm so excited to do this, to resemble and to learn from your style, and to destroy my face and my taste vibes and everything about myself. How are you feeling? I'm okay. I was pretty confident until we started making these things and opening the bottles and smelling them. And now I have this like tingle going on in my nose just sitting here. I am very nervous. Do you want to start with number one? Let's just see how it goes. Just like jump right into it? Starting point is 00:02:49 I'm doing dead Feeling feeling overconfident It's all the training you put in for this Yeah I've been eating spicy everything for the past few days and then I start sweating and Rebecca starts worrying
Starting point is 00:03:02 always makes me feel warm and fuzzy so catch us up a few quick questions first you brought on sponsors onto your leather workshop yeah I get in there I got what did I get free like they sent me like a laser cutter engraver thing
Starting point is 00:03:22 so I did a review of that and it's a really cool machine and then do you miss the old school style you're a person who likes that heritage style working through it how do you feel about the laser i still do the old school style a little more than the laser the laser's really cool um actually oh did you see the video i did i did some coasters for um yes matthew with the uh with the whiskey channel i still haven't got them to him yet but um yeah i made like little coasters and i just did his logo on it so that was cool and then I've had a couple companies sending me leather and making stuff, so. That's exciting.

Starting point is 00:05:00 He doesn't react to any of them. The question is, as an interviewer, can you maintain the mentality of asking the right question throughout the interview as you're also dying? Because a lot of people go, well, it's got to be tough to answer the question. It's got to be tough to ask the question when your face is melting off. What's this one? This one is. Los Caliente Verde

Starting point is 00:05:44 There's a big jump in heat Though at some point Yeah, we're sitting pretty at 36,000 Scoville. Doesn't go to like a million or something stupid? 638,000. Okay, so like 10 times this.
Starting point is 00:05:59 They're not feeling anything yet. Not yet, surprisingly. So it's still sitting there. It's still hot. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm still feeling good. And we're halfway in.
Starting point is 00:06:08 I mean, high five to us. Oh, yeah. We're the boss. Oh, this is easy so far. These whippersnappers over here, they're not brave like us. No.
Starting point is 00:06:16 I'm starting to be, I'm starting to get a little bit concerned though at the halfway point come on man up if i'm not nervous if i'm going into this clear-headed focused driven i like your confidence yeah we're talking about the brooklyn yeah brooklyn deli also this is a that's a ghost pepper i think this is this is a small step it's from 36000 scowville to 39 oh come on slack okay let's do it let's go ready that one that one that one. The last one was like this lip tongue burning thing. This one gives me like
Starting point is 00:06:53 a runny nose. Yeah, this one's just the back of the throat more. Yeah, that's interesting. But we're still good. When we're sitting in 39, the next one's going to be the torchbearer. That's 68,000. That's not bad. You can see why people don't, like in some of them, you kind of surprised at how well they do. Now I'm
Starting point is 00:07:09 starting to understand the landscape. They really like backload the heat on this. So the front ones, they can false confidence. I think it's confidence and I think it lets them get through most of the interview before it just goes off the rails. There you go.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You're down a little bit here. Oh yeah. It's crunch time. I like it. I'll just totally breathe in. I just don't want to exhale anymore. Yeah, that one, that one lingers like the other one. So it's still hot. I didn't ask one question about this. Is there like an end impact of all of this being in our system?
Starting point is 00:07:49 for the next like 24 hours oh i'm like have you have you not experienced the impact in your hot chicken training no tomorrow's going to be worse than today wow so this was ghost pepper that's why it's sitting every time i've had ghost pepper it lingers oh that's been in your pop-by sandwiches yeah and i tried to get it at mucho burrito but the disrespect was real they were like i was like i don't see it and then i was like oh do you have any of your ghost pepper And they're like, yeah, didn't even hesitate. And I was like, okay, maybe they have it in the back. Oh, we're out.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I was just like, I'm trying to prepare here, okay? I'm going for a marathon. They didn't think you could handle it. I think it's what it is. Well, I just handled this one. It was pepper hot sauce. Now we're onto the mushroom mayhem. There's something friendly about this one.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Do you think so? This one? Mushrooms. That's true. We are a fun guy. I'm a living, walking fun guy. Yeah, you are. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Man, gnarly. I'm not getting used to the noise. I'm not going to use to the noise, the chewing, the crunching. I'm nervous. Are you? It's not here yet. I'm nervous. I'm not eating as much as I was.
Starting point is 00:09:02 Yeah, he's slowing down. Come on. This is the primary problem with the most being used for both voice and eating. Right here. Yes. I mean, to be clear, my face is just tingles at this point in time. Is it?

They're literally worried about being on. Now it's building a little. Yeah, it's building. It's, um, like other people are just existing.

Starting point is 00:10:09 Had first eyes close can't lose This one smells spicy Oh you went No You're like instantly hot. Like holding it is hot. It's like my fingers are warm. I've always wanted to know what
Starting point is 00:10:24 101,000 scoffil feels like. That's the first one I would say doesn't taste good. This is bringing up a lot of emotions for me. Is it? This is the one that I've been scared of now, so now I'm feeling nervous. So angry goat? It was supposed to be like a pineapple mango flavor.
Starting point is 00:10:44 were. It just kind of tasted like heat. I am impressed I've made it this far. Were you not expecting it? I thought it was going to start to die on the first one.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Really? And then I smelled the hot. Yeah, this one's starting to do it's actually. Oh, you got the ice cream. Ice cream. Is it helping? Yeah, is it actually helping?
Starting point is 00:11:25 It's so cool. What's him? I'm certain. Yeah. Oh, it's going to have no room. You shove it in there. Yeah, he's just shoveling half the pint. watching
Starting point is 00:11:47 hot ones everyone has an issue with this next one which one this is the bomb yeah this is the well yeah
Starting point is 00:11:57 so this is the one that I'm like most worried about because this is the biggest jump in evil isn't it 101 to 135 okay
Starting point is 00:12:06 it still feels like a big jump yeah car one you're freaking me out now. I mean to freak you up.

Starting point is 00:15:21 Yeah, they can try this and tell me not to eat ice cream. But then it's going to. I left the window open. I thought they couldn't hear me. I scared mine off of this. Thank you. Thank you so much for getting me this. Of course, I made it for you.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Describe it to me. So it's like, I don't know, a little notebook wallet. Wow. Yeah. It's made out of, it's kind of a special leather. So the leather supplier that I buy my leather off of, send me this leather. This is, he calls it as glass jack leather. And it's an Italian leather.
Starting point is 00:16:05 that's made especially for him and he sent me a bunch to make some stuff and so i thought i don't know we should have started this before you could have documented your thoughts on each uh wing but this is really cool i appreciate i love that you you're able to put your what's it called the oh the maker's mark yeah i love your cards too i've given the amount of people yeah of course You run out of your ice cream machine. That was just going to talk about a lot of time hour. Come on.
Starting point is 00:16:36 That was me stalling. Was that clear? Before we get there, can you just tell me about what it was like to be born? Can we really dive into that? What? Just walk me through your entire life. For the past 36 years. Okay, so we made it.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And we're at butterfly bakery. I'm going to be honest. the bomb was terrible It was terrible It tasted bad It's still here It's still here And I just had like

Starting point is 00:21:32 The pressure to have my face on fire this much and to ask a good quality question to Kevin Hart told. He's going hard for it.
