It's Monday, April 15th.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
After four extensions, New York State lawmakers are due back in Albany today to continue negotiating the state's budget.
WNIC's Tiffany Hansen has more.
The budget was due on April 1st.
This is not the first time Governor Hogle has missed the day.
deadline. She's been late every year since she took office in 2021. Last year, lawmakers also punted
on a housing plan failing to reach consensus. Housing seems to be the holdup this year as well.
Sticking points include property tax breaks for developers and new eviction protections for
renters. Tenant advocates say the protections don't go far enough. Landlord groups say the plan
doesn't give them enough leeway to raise rents. A deal appeared close on Friday, but as of today,
the budget is more than two weeks late.
Millions of dollars are now up for grabs in New Jersey
for organizations looking to start mental health crisis response teams across the state.
Governor Phil Murphy says $12 million are available to groups through legislation
passed this year to create pilot program alternative to traditional law enforcement.
Officials say crisis teams will target people reluctant to call police or medical response teams,
Community-based organizations in six counties are eligible for the money, Camden, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, and Passailles.
Eligible groups can get up to $2 million from this day. They have until May 21st to apply for those funds.
New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson, has capped one of the best regular seasons in franchise history,
with an overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls yesterday. Brunson carried the Knicks with his 11th 40-point game
leading the team into the number two seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Knicks finished with a record of 50 and 32.
Their best since the 2012-2013 season.
Brunson finished with 40 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists,
and tied former Nick Great Patrick Ewing for the second most 40-point games
and won regular season by a New York Knicks player.
Go New York, go, New York.
The EPA says the air quality is good today,
sunny and crisp and cooled out there later on, 59 and clear right now, mostly sunny, and then a warm one, 76 and gusty, and then tomorrow sunny and 70 before we begin to cool off for the rest of the week.
