Starting point is 00:00:03 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Monday, April 24th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. 46 with some clouds out there this morning, mostly sunny and 62 for a high to day. There's been a string of robberies in the Bronx, and the group behind them has managed to evade the police now for weeks. The NYPD says a group of three to five men are mainly targeting teens
Starting point is 00:00:36 within the 44th precinct. They've reportedly stolen cell phones, money, and a 13-year-old's scooter. Police say the group's been spotted with pepper spray, a knife, and in at least one case, a gun. Some of the teen victims ended up in the hospital. The police are asking the public to share any information they can. Gasoline prices keep rising in New Jersey and around the nation, but analysts say a drop in demand and falling oil prices soon may bring some relief at the pumps.
Starting point is 00:01:04 AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price, of a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was $3.52. That's an increase of 8 cents from the previous week. The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was 368, up 2 cents from last week. Drivers were paying 44 cents more or $404.4.12 cents a gallon on average a year ago at this time. Oil prices fell last week in an ongoing market concerns that future interest rate increases could tip the economy. into a recession, a move analysts say will likely lead to reduced oil demand and prices in the near future. New York started playoff season with five teams in the mix. Now it's down to just four.
Starting point is 00:01:50 WNIC's Tiffany Hanson has more. The Brooklyn Nets are eliminated from the NBA playoffs after Philadelphia swept in four games, but the Knicks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers twice at home over the weekend. They're up three games to one and could close out the calves later this week. In hockey, despite winning their first ever playoff game at the new UBS Arena on Friday, the Islanders are now down three games to one against the Carolina Hurricanes after a tough loss at home yesterday. They look to stay alive in Raleigh tomorrow. And the Hudson River series continues tonight at Madison Square Garden as the Rangers face off against the New Jersey Devils. The Devils won Saturday in overtime. They now trail the Rangers two games to one. The puck-drives. tonight at MSG at 7. 46 with some clouds out there, mostly sunny today and 62 for a high, and then tomorrow mostly sunny and 62 as well.
