Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. 48 looks like a lot of clouds out there this morning. Sunshine today highs in the low 60s. The medical examiner who conducted the autopsy of Kawasaki Treywick after police shot and killed him says the bullets likely killed him right away.
Starting point is 00:00:37 She testified yesterday in the administrative charge. trial of the NYPD officers accused of shooting him and letting him die. WNYC Samantha Max reports. Dr. Terris Cedaroth said the chances of Treywick surviving his injuries would have been vanishingly small. As images of his body appeared on a large screen, his mother, Ellen Treywick looked down. His father, Ricky Treywick, wrapped an arm around his wife. Both were dressed in black. The nature of Treywick's wounds could make it difficult for police watchdogs to prove that officer Herbert Davis should be fired based on the one charged against him that he didn't provide medical aid. The other officer, Brendan Thompson, faces several charges for using excessive force
Starting point is 00:01:18 when he tased and shot Traywick. New York City is remembering the legendary singer, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte. Belafonte died yesterday at his Upper West Side home. Born in Harlem to parents from the Caribbean, Belafonte lived and performed in New York City for much of his life. to WNYC in 2011 about why his mother once decided to move their family out of the city. The city and all of its conditions so overwhelmed her that would be better off for her children to go back to Jamaica so that we'd be better off being raised by a village than by the mischief of the streets of New York. Belafonte was one of the first black stars of film and music in the USA, but later he scaled back his entertainment career to devote more time to activism. During the
Starting point is 00:02:07 civil rights era, he worked closely with Reverend Luther King Jr. And locally, in 2013, he supported Bill de Blasio's campaign for mayor. Pellifanti was 96 years old. The New York Islanders staved off elimination last night by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 3 to 2 and trail the series now by the same count. Game 6 Friday on Long Island. The aisles will have to win and force a game 7 to advance to the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.
