Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Former Congress member George Santos was back in court on Long Island yesterday.
As WNYC, Samantha Max reports, he's pleaded not guilty to a slew of federal charges, including fraud.
Prosecutors say Santos and his former congressional campaign treasurer,
Lied on paperwork to get money.
They also say he stole financial information from donors and charged their credit cards without authorization.
The Republican was kicked out of Congress after news reports accused him of lying extensively about his background.
Santos' criminal trial is now set to begin in mid-September, and it's expected to last several weeks.
A federal judge ruled that jurors will have partial anonymity since it's such a high-profile case.
His attorney says they're happy with the judge's latest rulings and are ready to pick a jury.
Mayor Adams is planning to attend the Democratic National Convention next week in Chicago,
and he has some strategy notes for his party on its messaging toward working-class voters.
We need to really have a level of clarity that we have a good product on affordability and public safety,
and I think that's where New Yorkers and other working-class people want to hear.
Adams is one of more than 300 Democratic delegates expected to turn out for the convention,
headlined by Vice President Kamala Harris and a running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Unlike in previous years, it won't be a roll-call vote.
Democrats nominated Harris in a virtual vote last week.
Staten Islanders will be cheering on their very own South Shore team in the Little League World Series tournament tomorrow.
He'll face off against Nevada's Pesio Verde, Little League, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania,
at three as part of the U.S. bracket.
Staten Island Borough President Vito Fasela said the local team's success is a reminder
the borough's rich baseball tradition and is also an opportunity to come together.
We share it. It's a community experience and we're just rooting for them to try their best
to have some fun and if possible bring home a World Series.
