Welcome to NYC now.
Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC.
It's Monday, December 11.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Governor Kathy Hochle has deployed resources into at-risk communities, including universities.
It's a response to a surge and reported hate crimes in New York State.
Now she has a warning.
WNIC's Tiffany Hanson has more.
Hockel penned a letter on Saturday to the presidents of state colleges and universities,
saying that calls for genocide made on campuses are a violation of the state's human rights law
and the Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964.
She says any college found in violation will be referred to the state's division of human rights
and to the federal government.
Non-compliant colleges could also be deemed ineligible for state and federal funds.
The letter follows last week's congratulations.
congressional hearing during which several university presidents testified about their school's responses
to anti-Semitism. Mayor Erica Adams is once again on the defense of about the reported federal
investigation into his election campaign fundraising. Here he is on WBLS yesterday. There is a federal
investigation that has presented no evidence of wrongdoing while baseless accusations are levied by
others that are not even part of the review about the conduct of my campaign and my administration.
Last month, the FBI raided the home of his campaign fundraiser, Brianna Suggs. The FBI is
reportedly looking into whether Adams' campaign broke campaign finance laws by soliciting donations
from the Turkish government and foreign nationals. In a few weeks, New Jersey will start
enforcing restrictions on its breweries. Those include limits on how many special events a brewery
can hold and rules that say it can't partner with food trucks to serve meals. State lawmakers and
Governor Murphy agree the rules are unfair, but after the legislature passed a law doing away with
some of the limits, Murphy sent it back to lawmakers. Murphy wants changes that also make it
easier to get a liquor license. Scott Wells Co-own's Ballaro's Snort Brewery in Carlsstead.
This is no longer about business and no longer about the brewers, but this is just about
internal politics. Well, says small business owners are left in limbo while the politicians
hash it out. Lawmakers will use this month's lame duck session to try to come up with a solution
or two. Forty forward light rain now rain and showers till early afternoon. Temperatures falling to low
40s by late afternoon and gusty today, freezing in the city tonight and windy.
