Starting point is 00:00:02 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Wednesday, December 13. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. New York State voters could get new congressional districts again. As WNYC's John Campbell reports, the state's top court ordered a new map yesterday. The Court of Appeals ruled the state's bipartisan redistricting panel
Starting point is 00:00:29 should get another crack at drawing the district. lines. That means it's back to the drawing board for the current boundaries, which were just put into place by the courts last year. Now, the redistricting panel has until the end of February to come up with new lines, and it'll be up to the Democrat-dominated state legislature to finalize them. That makes it likely any new map will be more favorable to Democrats than the current one. Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are hailing the ruling, saying it's what the Constitution demands. Republicans say it's an front to democracy. They could try to sue again once a new map is in place.
Starting point is 00:01:07 The NYPD is cracking down on fake and obstructed license plays before the new congestion pricing plan takes effect next spring. Chief Joseph Gulata is a commanding officer in Staten Island who says he arrested two people last night who had forged temporary place. We did a stop the other day where it was completely blocked out and the plate could not be a red period. Another thing was seen is a sticker over a piece of blue tape put So we see a lot of that as we go along as well. Police have arrested more than 7,500 people for these plates so far this year. They've also issued nearly 12,000 summonsors.
Starting point is 00:01:42 They say some New Yorkers buy these plates online through Facebook marketplace from people who sell the plates out of their car trunks or even local auto body shops. New York State is recalling Jenny's Zizi Gommies. Officials say the marijuana gummies did not go through the required testing for consumer safety and product quality. The Office of Cannabis Management said it hasn't heard of any adverse health effects from consumers. Anyone who bought Jenny's ZZ Gummies between September 4th and November 1st can return
