Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Monday, February 5th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. More than two dozen tenants of a partially collapsed Bronx apartment building are suing their landlord for needed repairs and an end to what they call a pattern of harassment. WNYC's David Brand reports on the conditions. After a corner of their building,
Starting point is 00:00:31 crumbled onto the sidewalk in December, about 150 tenants had to leave their apartments. Then, some of the renters who returned home said their apartments had been ransacked. Other units were completely reconfigured. Ivan Shoup says the landlord has to answer for these problems. If people are not held accountable, then who's to say that this won't happen again? And not to just our building, but to another building. Shoup says the building's terrible conditions go back years. The owner did not immediately respond to a request for,
Starting point is 00:01:01 comment. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg says a grand jury will begin to hearing evidence. After a group of migrants attacked NYPD officers in Times Square a week ago, police surveillance video shows migrants repeatedly punching and kicking two officers and a lieutenant outside a homeless shelter as officers tried to arrest a man. D.A. Bragg says the grand jury will help identify and charge those who attacked the police. I watched the teeth this week. Dispicable behavior. It's me and outraged. My office and me personally have been working with NYPD every day with this week on this matter. Police say they arrested four people for the assault on the night of the brawl. All four of their attorneys either did not comment or did not respond to a request for comment.
Starting point is 00:01:50 The video shows at least seven people hitting the officers. The world's most famous soccer tournament is coming to New York and New Jersey in two years. FIFA says MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host the final match on Sunday, July 19th. Mayor Eric Adams and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced the news in a promotional video posted to social media. We've got the whole world right in our backyard with more than 600 languages and dialects spoken across our region. There is nowhere that better captures the breadth and diversity of the world's greatest game, the New York City and our great garden state. The New York, New Jersey region was first announced as a host city in June of 2022.
