Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Monday, January 8th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. Migrant families with children will have to leave their New York City shelters starting today as the city starts enforcing its new 60-day limit on shelter stays. WNIC's Karen Ye reports, as some have to reapply for housing. The first round of shelter moves will begin at the Roe Hotel in Midtown.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Migrant families and their kids who have nowhere else to go will have to reapply for shelter at the Roosevelt Hotel, the city's main intake center. Jennifer Pringle is a project director for advocates for children and worries kids will be uprooted from their schools if they relocate to shelters further away. I can't imagine a scenario where there will be a significant disruption to children's education. City Hall says they need to accommodate newer arriving families and have issued four. 4,800 60-day notices to migrant families. A 30-day limit is already in place for migrant adults. New Jersey lawmakers plan to vote later today to lift restrictions on Garden State breweries. Those include a ban on selling food and limits on the number of TVs they can have. State Senator Vin-Gopal is the bill's prime sponsor. He says the measure also addresses separate liquor
Starting point is 00:01:25 license reforms. Governor Murphy said he would need included to approve easing the rule. for breweries. For example, the bill would make it so towns would be able to transfer unused liquor licenses to their neighbors. Previously, you were not allowed to transfer licenses from one municipality or another, so this is a good step in that direction. If the bill passes, it will go to the governor's desk one day before the end of the current legislative session and just a few days before moratorium on enforcing brewery restrictions expires. 36 and clear now, flood watch kicking in tomorrow, in for a lot of rain come tomorrow and to Wednesday.
