Welcome to NYC Now.
Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC.
It's Monday, June 10th.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Elected leaders who support congestion pricing are calling out Governor Hockel's walkback of the plan.
State Senator Jabari Brisport led advocates in a pro-c congestion pricing chant yesterday in Brooklyn.
Senator Brisport says working class New Yorkers who use,
public transit need congestion pricing most. State lawmakers left Albany, though, for the year
yesterday without a plan, or actually Saturday, without a plan to fill the multi-billion-dollar
financial hold that scrapping congestion pricing would leave. The Westchester County Department of Health
has a stark morning for Hudson River boaters and swimmers. WNYC's Tiffany Hanson has more.
County health officials say raw sewage is being released into the Hudson River in Assoning due to a
in a force main at the Crotonville sewer pump station. Residents are warned that contact with sewage
is a, quote, potential public health threat, and they should avoid the water from Peakskill to Yonkers.
Beaches in the area are closed until further notice. Officials say up to a million gallons of sewage
are expected to be released into the river every day until repairs on the pipe are completed.
The City Health Department is monitoring the situation and will advise residents once the discharge has ended
and repairs are finished, no date for completion was given.
New York probation officials will interview former President Trump today.
The interview is a required step before his July 11 sentencing
in his criminal election interference conviction case.
Three people familiar with the plans say Trump will do the interview
by a computer video conference from his Florida home.
The three people spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity
because they weren't authorized to disclose the plans publicly.
The probation interview prepares a report that will tell the judge more about the defendant,
and attorneys say gives defendants a chance to show remorse,
and that could benefit them at sentencing.
But Trump continues to say he is innocent of any crime.
63 and sunny now, it's quite a morning out there.
It's a beautiful one, mostly sunny in 77, with a slight wind today,
and then tomorrow mostly sunny in 70.
You'll notice a warm-up all the way to the 90s by the end of the week.
Thanks for listening.
