There is a new way for New Yorkers to show proof of identification, and it does not require pulling out a driver's license. WNYC's Andrew Jambroni reports. The DMV is rolling out a new mobile ID that people can use
Starting point is 00:00:28 to get through airport security at LaGuardia, JFK, than two dozen other airports. All you have to do is download an app called New York Mid, take a picture of your physical ID, and a selfie. Once verified, you can start using the mobile ID at Select TSA Checkpoints. DMV spokesperson Lisa Kumjin says local businesses could eventually accept it. Let's say, for example, down the road, your local bar or restaurant accepts a New York mobile ID, and they ask you to prove your age. You scan your ID rather than handing over your physical document. Starting point is 00:01:08 charges for allegedly selling firearms to an undercover NYPD officer while in federal prison. WNIC's Catalina Gona has more. Hayden Espinoza is accused of using the messaging app telegram on smuggled phones to sell illegal guns and gun parts from a prison cell in Louisiana. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg says Espinosa ran a channel that. that promoted racist extremist views to attract gun buyers. Among them was an undercover NYPD officer tracking gun sales. We see this sad and tragic combination far too often of the intersection of gun violence and gun trafficking and hate and extremism. Espinoza faces multiple charges and is set to be extradited to New York this month.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Prosecutors say Esponelza doesn't have a lawyer yet on this case. In other news this morning, the All Things Go Music Festival is coming to Queens for the first time this fall, and now the lineup of performers is out. Singer Renee Rapp will headline, Night 1 of All Things Go at Forest Hill Stadium. She'll be joined by Munah and Chapel Rhone. Then on Night 2, Janelle Monet will headline. All Things Go has been running in D.C. in Maryland for a decade. It'll make its New York debut on September 28th and 29th.
