New York City's public housing agency will help 60 teens and young adults in Brownsville get their high school degrees and train for careers in construction. WNIC's Karen Ye reports on the new workforce development program. NICS says they're targeting. people 16 to 24 years old who didn't finish high school or aging out of foster care or had
Starting point is 00:00:36 interactions with the criminal justice system to join the program. Michelle Ramey is with Nica and says the goal is to get younger residents into post-secondary education or into the construction pipeline where they can earn higher salaries or land a union job. Getting someone into a union at, you know, at 1819 could really change a trajectory of their entire lives or families. She says they'll start recruiting residents later this summer. The federally funded training program will start in the fall. Elected officials across New York City are denouncing acts of alleged anti-Semitism vandalism at the homes of several Brooklyn museum leaders. WNIC's Catalina Gonella has more. The NYPD says it's still investigating. But photos circulating on social media show the home of the museum's director with red
Starting point is 00:01:25 paint splattered on the entrance. There was also a banner hung outside. that accuses her of being a, quote, white supremacist Zionist. The homes of several board members were also reportedly hit with vandalism. Mayor Eric Adams says it won't be tolerated. And Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Rinozo says, quote, anti-Semitism is not a legitimate tool of advocacy. Less than two weeks ago, police arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters who converged at the Brooklyn Museum.
Starting point is 00:01:56 The NYPD did not immediately identify any. suspects. Mayor Adams says he's disappointed the world-famous competitive eater Joey Chestnut would not be participating in Nathan's famous hot dog eating contest next month. The mayor says let's find a way to squash this beef and bring back the champ for another 4th of July at Coney Island. Chestnut's wins at the annual hot dog competition helped make him world famous. He has won 16 out of 17 times he's competed, including last year. Adams' comments come on the same day that Netflix said it would stream a live hot dog eating competition featuring Chestnut on Labor Day. 63 and sunny now, sunny in mid-80s today, a threat of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.
