The first woman to serve as NYPD Commissioner Kishon Seul has not said why she announced her resignation this week. WNIC's Elizabeth Kim reports the speech Seel gave in November may provide some clues. Sewell never mentions Mayor Eric Adams by name, but does say she's writing the letter having taken stock of her tenure as police commissioner so far. Starting point is 00:01:11 Adam's spokesperson says the story is false. The city says it's investing more than $75 million in a Brooklyn neighborhood called The Whole, after decades of neglect. Mayor Adam says the city plans to build infrastructure and affordable housing in the area. The area is on the Brooklyn-Queen's border, and it was built on a creek bed. It's not on the city's sewer system. residents deal with constant flooding, which, as WNYC has been reporting, has caused mold and even mushrooms to grow in some homes.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Looking for weekend plans, Coney Island's world-famous mermaid parade is tomorrow for more than 40 years. The event has been a celebration of New York City's art and culture. Coney Island USA Artistic Director Adam Rinn says the parade is fun for both children and adults. It's colorful. It's just a celebration. of the summer, a celebration of this is what New York should be. This year's King Neptune is Bronx native, Cool Keith.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Wren says the rapper and producer was chosen to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, which also got its start in the Bronx. Online registration for the mermaid parade has ended, but there is an opportunity to register the day of from 10 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon, just make sure you bring some cash. from the looks of this forecast, it does not look like it will rain on that parade. Today, a chance of midday and afternoon showers and possibly a thunderstorm might get some small hail and gusty winds.
