Welcome to NYC Now.

It's Monday, June 17th.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
It's a dreaded right of spring for tenants in about a million New York City apartments.
A board of mayoral appointees is set to decide how much more tenants must pay in rent next year.
WNIC's David Brand reports on the upcoming rent guidelines.
boards vote. The RGB is considering a rent increase between 2 and 4.5% on new one-year leases
and up to 6.5% on two-year leases for tenants and stabilized apartments. Tenant groups and many
elected officials are urging the board to freeze the rent instead, but landlords are demanding
an even higher rent hike. They say their own costs are rising. The RGB decided to raise
rents by 3% last year.
and state lawmakers are facing pressure to fill a big gap in the MTA's budget after the governor
indefinitely paused congestion pricing for years. Left-leaning organizations have been pushing to tax
the wealthy to pay for transit upgrades, but they're hesitant to call for that now because they
don't want to wave the white flag on congestion pricing. Jasmine Gripper co-directs the working
families party. She says the tax on the wealthy should be Plan B.
If we can't bypass the governor's pause, then the legislature absolutely should explore taxing the ultra-wealthy as a way of filling the gaps for the MTA.
Hokel has raised the possibility of bringing lawmakers back to Albany before the end of the year, perhaps as soon as next month,
but she has not reached a deal with legislative leaders on a new funding source for transit projects.
Music mogul, Sean Diddy Combs, is no longer the holder of a key to New York City.
He has returned the key after a request from Mayor Adams sent after the release of a video showing Combs attacking his former partner, the R&B singer Cassie.
The mayor's office confirmed Combs returned the key after Adams sent letters to the embattled musician on June 4th, asking for it to be sent back to City Hall.
In May, CNN aired security video of Combs attacking Cassie in a hotel.
Hallway in Los Angeles in 2016. He has apologized saying he is truly sorry for the attack.
Taking a look now at your weather. 66 and sunny, mostly sunny today in 85 for a high in the city.
Tomorrow's sunny and 90. We begin this stretch of 90 degree temperatures in this area. New Jersey is
going to be even hotter than New York. In both places, we could have heat into seas topping the triple digits.
