Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Tuesday, June 20th. Here's the morning headlines for Michael Hill. 64, mostly cloudy, sunshine later, and 76 for a high. The Murphy administration says it has reached a tentative deal on a property tax cut for seniors in New Jersey. WNYC's Nancy Solomon reports.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Administration officials say they convinced Democratic leaders in the legislature to limit the tax cut to anyone 65 years and older who makes less than $500,000 a year. The governor had objected to a proposal that had no income limits. The current agreement also lowers the amount of the maximum tax cut allowed. Legislators had wanted to cut property taxes for seniors in half, up to $10,000 max. now the maximum would be $6,500. The compromise paves the way for a budget deal between the governor and the legislature before the July 1st deadline and could avoid a possible government shutdown. Starting point is 00:01:18 Police are investigating after dozens of LGBTQ pride flags were found broken and thrown on the ground over the weekend near the historic Stonewall Inn, that's at least three times in just eight days that pride flags at the Queer Bar National Monument have been vandalized. Three men broke multiple flags off the fence last weekend at the Greenwich Village fixture. More flags were discovered damaged on Thursday and another batch on Saturday. The displays creator made more than 250 pride flags and said he found 50 to 60 of them broken and on the ground. The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is looking into the U.S. incidents they've yet to confirm if the three events are connected. Central Park gobers can once again rent rowboats and dine near the lake. The famous Loeb Boathouse Cafe has reopened its doors as of this
Starting point is 00:02:09 weekend. The former operators shut it down last year because of rising expenses. The boathouse has been featured in movie and television classics like when Harry met Sally and Sex in the City. The new company in charge is Legends Hospitality and it's spending more than $3 million to benefit. the boathouse with upgraded patios and restrooms and a revamped menu. Legends Hospitality also runs the Yankee Stadium concession stands. The company has signed a 10-year contract to run the Central Park space. 64 and mostly cloudy, even overcasts out there.
