Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC Now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Friday, March 1st. Here's the morning headlines from David Furst. Transit workers are raising concerns over safety after a conductor was slashed in the neck early yesterday morning. Conductor Alan Scott was attacked while working as his a train pulled into the Rockaway Avenue station. His wife, Dolores, says she's always been worried about his safety at work. It has to be somebody who is sicking the brain.
Starting point is 00:00:36 And our mayor promised us he would take them off the street and take them out of this train. Police have yet to find his attacker. The Transport Workers Union is criticizing the MTA for not doing enough to protect transit workers. Mayor Adams is calling on state lawmakers to pass legislation to make it easier for the city to close stores that illegally sell marijuana. New Yorkies are tired and fed up of seeing the ill. illegal shops and we need to take action. That's why I'm looking forward to working with all our partners in Orbanes. Give us the local authority. Allow us the opportunity to close down the illegal shop. He made the remarks during his first public visit to a legal cannabis dispensary yesterday.
Starting point is 00:01:18 As Madawana dispensary in Park Slope celebrated its opening, its billed as the first legal dispensary owned by a black woman. The mayor was joined by State Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar, who has introduced legislation that would give cities the authority to order immediate closure of any business that violates cannabis or tobacco loss. 31 degrees now. It's going to be sunny today with a high of 44 this afternoon. Tonight, increase in clouds, a low of 39 degrees. There's a slight chance for rain beginning overnight, and then we are expecting rain through the day tomorrow with a high near 50 degrees. This is WNYC.
