It's Wednesday, March 13th.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Mayor Adam says even though only a small number of adult migrants are accepting a bus or a plane ride to leave New York City,
the city will continue offering migrants tickets to go elsewhere.
WNYC's Karen Yee reports.
Adult migrants can only stay in a show.
shelter for a month at a time before having to reapply or accept a city paid ticket out of the
city. WNYC reported of the average 1,600 migrants who need a place to sleep every night,
just 2% accept tickets to other cities or states.
Adam says any number of migrants who can move on from the city's care is a success.
We start saying we're going to abandon this because it's only 2%.
No, that's a mistake.
We are looking at every percentage we can give to come up with 100%.
He says the administration is also offering tickets out of the city to migrant families.
City officials reticketed more than 28,000 migrants.
New York City's public housing authority is starting to evict more tenants behind on the rent.
Two years after a pandemic ever freeze on most evictions ended.
NITHA's CEO Lisa Bova Hyatt says the agency has evicted 110,000 households,
or 110 households, that is, since the start of 2022, including 50 this year alone.
We're focused right now on residents with the highest amount of arrears for the longest amount of time.
Bova Hyatt says unpaid rent. It's forcing the agency to dip into its reserves,
but she says NYCHA has about 30,000 fewer active eviction cases. More than 360,000 people live in NYCHA apartments.
And a sign that spring is on the way, not just the forecast, but Luna Park and Coney Island says it will reopen later this month.
This year, the famous roller coaster, The Cyclone, turns 97.
The first 97 riders will get a free dessert, continuing the tradition of opening the season with some egg creams.
The park is also debuting a new ride with electric-powered go-carts called Electric Eden Raceway.
Opening weekend at Coney Island is Saturday, March 23rd.
49 and partly cloudy out there.
Very spring-like once again today.
Sunshine in 68, and then tomorrow's sunny and 7.
Thanks for listening.
