Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC Now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Wednesday, March 20th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. Pharmacists in New York have now dispensed birth control without a prescription to anyone in the state. A new order signed yesterday by the state health commissioner increases access to birth control after Governor Hockel signed it into law last May. The Hockel says it.
Starting point is 00:00:31 aims to reassure women worried about diminishing reproductive health care access in other parts of the country. Just another way to reaffirm our commitment to making sure that women in the state of New York have all these rights to reproductive freedom, as well as to access to contraception so they can make their own decisions about their bodies. The news comes after regulators completed a required review of the order last week. The order applies to anyone in or traveling to New York. individuals will have to complete a health assessment questionnaire and present their insurance card before getting birth control. Mayor Adams is again denying accusations in a lawsuit that he sexually assaulted a woman in 1993 when they both worked for the NYPD's Transit Bureau. This did not happen. It did not happen. I don't recall ever meeting this person during my time in the police department.
Starting point is 00:01:26 The mayor spoke about the lawsuit yesterday at City Hall after the accuser filed a more detailed complaint alleging he demanded oral sex and then forced her to touch his genitals when she refused. The accuser is also suing the NYPD for gender discrimination. She's seeking at least $5 million in damages. Notice that the suit first came in November. It's being filed under the state's Adult Survivors Act, which gave survivors of alleged sexual misconduct a one-year window to bring a case in. civil court beyond the statute of limitations. The Wagner College men's basketball team made history last night. The Seahawks beat Howard University, 71 and 68, to pick up their first ever NCAA tournament
Starting point is 00:02:10 win. Wagner's Melvin Council Jr. led all players with 21 points. They play top-seated North Carolina and tomorrow. Meanwhile, the women's tournament gets underway tonight with Columbia taking on Vanderbilt and Sacred Heart playing Presbyterian. 43 with clouds right now in this first full day of spring. We have a chance of showers, mainly after 2 o'clock, increasing clouds. Mid-50s for a high, it'll be windy and gusty.
