Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to NYC now, your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Monday, July 14th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. New York City is set to spend $120 million on immigration legal services in the new city budget. That's nearly double what is spent on the issue last year. The City Council says that's the most money the city has ever spent on immigration legal services. About $25 million will be spent on a program to help low-income detained immigrants. Another $17 million will go to programs helping unaccompanied migrant children who arrived in the U.S.

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Abala is sounding off after nearly all of paths service in and out of his city was suspended Saturday night due to equipment failures. Cruise halted service between Hoboken and Manhattan as well as Journal Square for emergency switch repairs, Mayor Bala says PATH needs to turn things around and immediately. We're seeing a lot of chaos and a lot of mismanagement and dysfunction in the operation of the path. I mean, this is a fundamental artery for people to get to and from one place to another. Bala also blames the problems with PATH on decades of underfunding.
Starting point is 00:01:22 The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey launched a plan this year to invest 400, million dollars to upgrade the system's aging infrastructure. Yesterday morning, Sunday morning crews also performed emergency track work at Hoboken. The Yankees and Mets may be off until Friday for the Major League Baseball All-Star break, but WNYC Sean Carlson explains how you can still root, root, root for the home teams. The All-Star festivities kick off tonight in Atlanta, Georgia with the MLB home run derby. It is what it sounds like. Sluggers try to out-homeer each other.
