Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
New York City in the area are under an extreme heat warning as the city prepares for primary date.
That's tomorrow.
In the city, record numbers of New Yorkers voted early, which ended yesterday.
City Board of Elections data show young voters drove the surge.
The city officials are urging residents to stay in air-conditioned environments as much as possible and check on neighbors.
On election day tomorrow, temperatures could surpass 100 degrees.
The extreme heat warning expires Tuesday night at 8, polls close an hour later at 9.
Be careful out there.
Governor Kathy Hokel is ordering state officials to be on high alert after the U.S. bombed around this weekend.
WN.Y's Tiffany Hanson has more.
Hockel says state agencies, utilities, and other critical infrastructure facilities are monitoring for any possible disturbances.
The MTA and Port Authority are also activating counterterrorism protections while state police conduct safety patrols outside houses of worship and other sites.
The governor says may be at risk.
Hockel says officials are not aware of any specific or credible threat to New Yorkers,
but New York's high global profile warrants serious action.
The NYPD has increased its presence at religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites citywide in an overabundance of caution.
Take note if you commute on the FDR late at night.
Major road work begins tomorrow.
WNIC's Sean Carlson has details.
The Department of Transportation is resurfacing FDR drive from 96 to 125th Streets.
The work will happen on weekday overnights from 11 to 5 over a six-week period.
the DOT says whether permitting it should be done in mid-August.
During the milling and paving, only one lane will be open on the FDR on the corresponding side where the work is happening.
The resurfacing project will start on the northbound side at 96th Street and work its way up,
then switch to the southbound side at 1 25th and work down.
DOT says they'll send out notifications as the work along the FDR progresses.
It's already warm out there in the upper 70s and the partly sunny skies.
We have extreme heat warning until 8 o'clock tomorrow night.
and a high air pollution alert as well.
Today's sunny and 95 feeling like 102,
not much relief with just a light wind out there.
And then tomorrow's sunny and hot near 100 degrees
in terms of temperature and, of course, feeling hotter than that.
