Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to NYC Now, your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. Here's your morning headlines from Michael Hill. Immigration officers have arrested at least 20 people in a crackdown on anonymous sex in a men's room in New York, Penn Station. WNMIC's Ramsey-C-C-C-Colief reports. Amtrak officials confirmed that nearly 200 people were arrested for alleged sexual activity in the men's bathroom at the busy train hall. Amtrak says that's part of a crackdown on cruising at the station, where men meet up for sexual encounters. The meetups are often arranged online. Since Amtrak is a federal agency, they aren't blocked by local laws from moving people they've arrested into ICE custody if there's a warrant for their detention.
Starting point is 00:00:44 A police officer involved in the operation says that around two dozen men arrested for public lewdness in the bathroom were transferred to ICE facilities. The enforcement comes as the Trump administration has placed a watchful eye over Penn Station. Earlier this year, Amtrak took control of the station's reconstruction away from the MTA. A federal judge says Justice Department officials appear to have broken court rules when they posted on social media about Luigi Mangione. WNWC Samantha Max explains. Government agents are not supposed to share opinions about someone's guilt or innocence before trial. Mangione's lawyers say officials broke that rule when they shared a Fox News clip of President Trump condemning Mangione last week. in the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's killing.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Trump said there's no question what Mangione did. He shot someone in the back. As clear as you're looking at me or I'm looking at you, he shot, he looked like a pure assassin. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to federal and state charges. The judge ordered the Justice Department to make sure officials don't break the rules in the future. A DOG spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Police say someone shot a man inside Penn Station last night. Authorities say the shooting happened on a Long Island Railroad platform around 7 in the evening.
Starting point is 00:02:03 The gunfire hit a 32-year-old man in the arm and medics took him to a hospital. The NYPD is continuing to investigate the incident. They say one person has been taken into police custody in this shooting. 72 with clouds now showers in some spots. Watch out for the fog too.
