New York Mayor Eric Adams says he wants to use his executive authority to change New York's sanctuary city law. The mayor said that after he met with President Elect Trump's incoming border czar, Tom Homan, yesterday afternoon. City policy lists 170 crime categories in New York's sanctuary law that allow city officials to hand over convicted, undocumented immigrants to federal authorities. The mayor says he wants to expand that list.
Starting point is 00:00:46 I'm going to try to attempt to use my executive orders to go after dangerous people who are committing violence acts against migrants and asylum seekers and long-term New Yorkers and undocumented immigrants. No one should be a victim of a crime in the city. Adam says he wants to target violent criminals and repeat offenders, but did not elaborate on what specific types of crime he would add to the list. Police say the man charged with killing United Health Care CEO, Brian Thompson, was not a client of the medical insurer and may have targeted because of its size and influence. NYPD chief of detectives Joseph Kinney told NBC New York, investigators have uncovered evidence that Luigi Mangione had prior knowledge United Health Care was holding its annual investor conference in Manhattan. Mangione mentioned the company in a note found in his possession when police detained him in Pennsylvania.
Starting point is 00:01:39 They arrested him there Monday at a McDonald's where someone called police. Mangi only remains jailed without bail in Pennsylvania. His attorney says he hasn't seen any evidence yet linking him to the crime. Governor Kathy Hockel says she's ordering the MTA to do a full review with Con Edison to figure out why electrical issues cause prolonged subway delays Wednesday night during the rainstorm. The MTA says an explosion in an electrical room caused the delays, which then snarled some riders' commutes for up to two hours. New York City Transit President Demetrius Critchlow is thanking MTA staffers and first responders who help get scores of passengers off the stall trains

Commuters yesterday morning also encountered a variety of lengthy delays across the city, including on the RNQFNL trains.
