It's Wednesday, December 4th.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Mayor Adams is incorrectly claiming that undocumented immigrants are not entitled to due process under the United States Constitution.
A reporter asked Adams to explain why he thought migrants should not be granted due process, but he should.
The Constitution is for Americans.
And I'm not a person that snuck into this country.
My ancestors have been here for a long time.
The mayor is fighting federal corruption charges.
Legal experts say laws in the Constitution generally apply to everyone on U.S. soil,
regardless of their immigration status.
In 2014, the city enacted a law that required undocumented New Yorkers to be convicted of
as opposed to just charge with, a list of serious crimes before they would hand them over to
federal immigration agents. Adam says those changes went too far.
Queens residents will get to weigh in tomorrow on a plan to put a sprawling entertainment
complex and casino next to City Field. The project is the vision of Mets owner, Steve Cohen.
The Queensboro president is holding a public hearing on the idea.
One opponent is Queens Assembly member and mayoral candidate Jessica Ramos. She says
she's skeptical about the project's economic benefits.
The idea of a casino is to trap people inside for hours at a time.
So I have trouble accepting that we would see the multiplier effect that is being promised
along our commercial corridors.
The hearing is 9.30 tomorrow morning at Queensboro Hall,
and it will stream on the borough president's YouTube page.
Rockefeller Center is holding its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony,
this evening, but that's not the only tree lighting game in town in Marine Park. The historic
lot house has its annual tree lighting Friday. Alyssa Luria is the president of the
nonprofit that runs the space. She says the tradition began more than a decade ago.
It started with our first caretaker when she lived there. She, on her own, would put a tree out.
And then one year were like, come on, let's just randomly invite people.
Several hundred people are expected to attend. You can get a lot.
a longer list of tree lightings around the five boroughs on our news site, Gothamist.
And today is a gridlock alert day in Manhattan, so the City Department of Transportation
advises take a bike or public transit or walk whenever you can.
31 and clear out there right now, increasing clouds in 41 today and gusty.
Snow by 10 o'clock tonight, then rain and snow likely with a low of 39, windy and gusty.
