From WNYC, it's Tuesday, September 2nd.
Here's your morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Authorities are investigating three separate shootings and a slashing that closed out the West Indian Day parade last night.
Police say while the parade was still going on, gunshots had a man and a woman near Eastern Parkway.
Then around six at night, the NYPD says someone slashed a man several times, also near the
parade route on Easton Parkway. Roughly an hour later, a third man suffered shots in the shoulder
in the chest near Classen Avenue in Eastern Parkway. At roughly the same time, police say a gunman
shot or a gunman shot a man in the neck and right leg and a woman in the left ankle a few
blocks from the parade route. Police say all the shooting victims and the slashing victim
are in stable condition as of this morning. City Council leaders are urging the City's
Board of Elections to reject three housing-related ballot measures. Mayor-Aprayor
Adams' Charter Revision Commission is proposing.
WNYC's area Sundayroom reports.
The Charter Commission proposed a series of measures in July
aimed at fast-tracking the city's building process,
but the Council says that three of the questions mislead voters
by failing to mention that the changes would strip away the Council's
enormous power over land-use decisions.
Among other things, the measures would give a final say in the process
to mayoral appointees or new appeals boards.
The Charter Commission says the changes are necessary
to meet the city's urgent housing demands.
The council, however, says the changes will weaken local residents' role in
negotiating things like affordable housing and infrastructure for neighborhoods.
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys kick off the NFL season on Thursday,
but our local teams play on Sunday.
W&M.C. Sean Carlson has more and some new faces on the Jets and Giants.
The Giants are bringing on a few more quarterbacks.

Miss. Big Blue opened their season away on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game against the Washington
commanders. Meanwhile, the Jets have a new head coach, Aaron Glenn. Gang Green also has Justin Fields as
their new quarterback. The team plays the Pittsburgh Steelers at home at MetLife Stadium, also at
one. Both teams are hoping to turn their fortunes after abysmal seasons last year. The Giants
finished dead last in their division. The Jets didn't fare much better in second to last, but
still edged out longtime rivals, the New England Patriots.
