NYC NOW - Morning Headlines: Over 700,000 New Yorkers Vote Early, Trash Collection Pause, and SNL Spoofs NYC Mayoral Race

More than 735,000 New Yorkers voted early this year, over five times the turnout from 2021 as the city prepares for Election Day on Tuesday. Meanwhile, trash, recycling, and compost collection will be paused for Election Day in New York City. Plus, Saturday Night Live poked fun at the mayor’s race, parodying the final debate between Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa.

New Yorkers have been flocking to the polls this election. Board of Elections data shows more than 735,000 voters cast ballots over the nine-day early voting period. That's more than five times the amount of early voters in 2021. At the YMCA in East Flatbush, voters waited in line for upwards of 30 minutes yesterday afternoon. 45-year-old Demetris Prince says he voted for independent candidate Cuomo because of the candidate's experience.

New York is like the top post, and when you're applying for a top post position, I believe that you should have some type of experience. 55-year-old George Hutchinson says he voting for Democrat Zeranam Dani because he wants to see change in this election. I've had enough of the old school, old way of doing things, and I'm hoping the devil I don't know is better than the devil I do know. Republican Curtis Lewa is also running. New York City polls are closed today, but reopened tomorrow morning for Election Day. That's from 6 in the morning until 9 at night. The city's sanitation department says there will be no trash, recycling, or compost pickup tomorrow on Election Day. New Yorkers who usually have the garbage picked up on Tuesdays,

can put it out on the curb tomorrow night for Wednesday pickup. The department says there may be some delays as service gets back to normal in the city. Speaking of Election Day, as we said, we'll say it again. Polls open at 6 in the morning and close at 9 at night. As long as you're in line by that time, you can still cast your ballot. Early voting is over in the New York City mayor's race tomorrow, as we said, it's election day. And over the weekend, Saturday night live took a satirical jab at the top candidates. in a sketch mimicking the final mayoral debate.

Comedian Rame Youssev played Democrat nominee Zeran Mamdani. And I know some of you are out there scared of the idea of a young socialist Muslim mayor, so allow me to put you at ease by smiling after every answer in a way that physically hurts my face. Act of Miles Tetler played independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, and comedian Shane Gillis played Republican candidate Curtis Slewa. Again, the polls open in New York City at 6 in the morning tomorrow and close at 9 at night. 53 and partly cloudy right now, a 40% chance of mainly midday rain on this Monday, mostly cloudy, near 60 with a calm wind.

And then tonight, low in the mid-40s and gusty, gusty again tomorrow, but some sunshine and a high temperature near 60 degrees and then chilly overnight. Thanks for listening.
