Congress member, Mikey Sherrill and Republican lawmaker, former lawmaker Jack Chitarelli, will face each other in the election for governor of New Jersey in November. Cheryl is a vocal critic of President Trump. She beat five experienced rivals to win the Democratic. Democratic Party nomination yesterday. The former Navy pilot and prosecutor now becomes the Democrat's standard bearer as the state party is looking to win the governorship for a third straight term.
Starting point is 00:00:41 The Republican nominee, Jack Chitterelli, cruised a victory with the support and endorsement of President Trump. We'll have a live report coming up in just a few minutes. The two leading candidates for New York City controller faced off one last time ahead of early voting beginning on Saturday. Brooklyn Councilmember Justin Brueckley. Brandon was asked if supporter from mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani might compromise his independence. Brandon said no. I think anyone right now that is proposing bold solutions to bring down the cost of living in this city, to make life easier for working people, those are people that I want the support of.
Starting point is 00:01:17 So I appreciate anyone that supports my campaign who has that same vision. Manhattan federal president Mark Levine responded with a warning. I just think it's critical that the next comptroller be told. totally independent, that do not be a perception or reality that the control of those favors to the next mayor, and I am preserving my independence in this campaign. Levine has about $3.3 million in campaign funds to Brennan's $2.6 million. New filings are due this Friday. Some city council members are pressuring Mayor Adams to let more New Yorkers ride public transit for a discounted fee. The called for
Starting point is 00:02:00 Expanding the Fair Fares program in the city next city budget at City Hall. Queens Council Member Selvina Brooks Power says the discount is essential for working class New Yorkers. In communities like Southeast Queens, where many residents face long commutes, limited transit options, and financial strain. Fairfares isn't just a discount. It's a lifeline. The program currently serves people earning up to 145% of the federal poverty level. Council members want to raise that to 200%.
