Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Wednesday, November 13th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. Public health experts worry President-elect Trump could undermine vaccination efforts during his second term in the White House. But WNIC's Caroline Lewis reports New York and other states do have guardrails against wholesale change. It's up to states to decide. on vaccine requirements for schools, and New York is one of just a handful of states where no
Starting point is 00:00:38 religious or personal exemptions are permitted. New York, like other states, has also had the power to make its own policies around COVID vaccine mandates. But public health experts say there are still ways the federal government can influence vaccine access and attitudes. For instance, the CDC is responsible for issuing childhood vaccine schedules and guidance, and many children receive shots through the federally funded vaccines for children program. New York City Mayor Adam says he supports Governor Kathy Hockel's plan to revive congestion pricing. Hockel paused the plan in June just before it was set to take effect. She now says she's looking at a lower toll than the original plan,
Starting point is 00:01:21 which would have charged most vehicles $15 to enter the busiest parts of Manhattan. Here's the mayor. You have to find the sweet spot in hearing. all the people of the city, not just the ones that you agree with. Hockel says she expects to make an announcement, and soon, President-elect Donald Trump, has said he opposes congestion pricing. That would mean Hockel has roughly two months to implement the new plan before Trump takes office. All of New Jersey and New York City are under Code Blue advisories this morning. Governments activate cold blues in response to below freezing
Starting point is 00:01:59 overnight temperatures. It allows them to relax shelter rules. It also opens drop-in centers to help people escape the extreme weather. New York City's asking people to call 311 if they see someone outdoors vulnerable to the cold and in need of shelter. In New Jersey, people in need of help can call 2-1-1, so can those who see them outside. Today's code blue expires at 8 in the morning in the city. I grab that code forecast for you today. 38 and clear right now, but it feels like could sit in the 20s. Sunny and 48 for a high today. This is fall, folks.
