Here's the morning headlines from Tiffany Hanson.
A former urologist convicted of sexually abusing patients is slated to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Darius Paduque was sentenced to life yesterday.
Padouk was convicted on multiple sex charges earlier this year.
Prosecutors say for years he sexually abused patients.
at his offices in Manhattan and on Long Island. They say he tried to convince patients that his
behavior was medically necessary. Eleven, former patients testified at Paduke's criminal trial and
dozens more provided written statements detailing the doctor's alleged abuse. Padouk is also
facing civil lawsuits. Padduke's attorney says his client maintains his innocence and is planning to
appeal. The NYPD's new commissioner is Jessica Tisch. She moves to police headquarters from the
sanitation department. She's been sanitation commissioner since the Adams administration began, but earlier
in her career, she spent years with the NYPD as deputy commissioner of information technology. She played a
major role managing the rollout of body-worn cameras on police officers. At her introduction, Tish drew on
that experience and praised the members of the NYPD. People who run toward the danger when everyone
else runs away. It is now my privilege to lead you. And I'm looking forward.
to coming home. Tish becomes the second woman to serve as NYPD Commissioner and the fourth commissioner
during Mayor Adams' tenure. Thomas Donlin, who has been interim commissioner, he succeeded Edward
Caban, who is under federal investigation. We are expecting to speak with Commissioner Tish tomorrow morning.
Mayor Eric Adams' new pick for the city's top lawyer took questions from City Council yesterday morning.
The mayor nominated Muriel Good Truffant for Chief Corporation Council. That's after his original nominee,
Andy Mastro seemed unlikely to get the council's blessing.
Speaker Adrian Adams invoked Mastro's work with private clients into question to good Truffant,
who said she had little interest in that kind of work.
There are some who choose money and there's some who choose fulfillment,
and I have been quite fulfilled at the law department.
The 34-year law department veteran is going through a confirmation process by the council
known as advice and consent.
The council will vote on her nomination early next to.
