Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Friday, November 3rd. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. The FBI says it's rated the Crown Heights home of a key fundraiser to Mayor Eric Adams. Her name is Brianna Suggs, and her company has received roughly $150,000 from Adams' mayoral campaign, as well as payments from a political action committee closely tied to the mayor. Christopher Kelly Burwell lives near Suggs and says the unexpected commotion frightened him.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Woke up to the FBI. I never saw the FBI in the block and it was scary. It was really scary. Adams had planned yesterday to travel to the White House but says he canceled the trip so he could be on the ground as the investigation unfolded. The mayor, he says he holds his campaigns to the highest standards. the Adams campaign says it is cooperating with investigators. The New York City Council is looking to increase education
Starting point is 00:01:06 on the benefits of screenings for sickle cell disease. To that end, passed a bill yesterday. Sickle cell is most common in people of African descent. Councilmember Mercedes-Narise sponsored the bill. She says she carries the sickle cell trade herself, and this bill would change lives. This legislation is a testament to our council commitment to health. to education and to the future where no one feels marginalized because of their genetic makeup.
Starting point is 00:01:34 The council also passed the bill that would require restaurants to label any menu items with the sugar content that exceeds 100% of the daily value for added sugars to target obesity rates. Restaurants that don't follow this new rule could be hit with a $200 fine. The New York State Attorney General is investigating the NYPD's deadly shooting of a Brooklyn man they suspected of killing two people. By law, the Attorney General investigates every incident in which a police officer may have caused to death. Police said they drove past Jason Pass in his car Wednesday in Southern Brooklyn. Pass was a suspect in the killing of two men in their east flatbush apartment building days earlier. Police say officers chased pass on foot and when they
