Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC Now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Tuesday, October 15th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. City and state officials are working to boost homeless outreach in the subways and say they're making progress. Connecting people to permanent housing, one state-run program known as SOS has gotten more than 500 New Yorkers apartment since it launched two years ago. This is according to the state. Tracy Wilson helps run SOS out of the state office of mental health. She says the program's subway outreach workers spend a long time building a
Starting point is 00:00:44 rapport with the people they meet. We really try to encourage the teams to figure out what people's dreams and aspirations are and then try to find a way to connect housing and services to achieving that dream. SOS has staff continued to work with clients for up to a year after they get housed to ease the transition from the streets. Today is the last day for New Jersey residents to register to vote. To register online, you'll need either a valid driver's license, a non-driver ID, or social security number to apply by paper application. You can download a form from the state's website that's vote.nj.gov and send it by mail to your county commissioner. voters can check their registration status on the Am I registered page of the New Jersey voter information portal. The Yankees and the Mets are three wins away from the World Series.
Starting point is 00:01:42 The Yankees are looking to take a two-to-nothing lead on their series against the Cleveland Guardians tonight in the Bronx. The bombers beat the guardians 5 to 2 last night at Yankee Stadium in game one of the American League Championship series. The Yanks took advantage of all things, sloppy pitching and catching by Cleveland, and homers by sluggers, Juan Soto and Jean-Carno Stanton. Meanwhile, the Mets bounced back from getting crushed in game one of their National League championship series against the L.A. Dodgers. The Amazins won the game two yesterday, seven to three, tying the series at one game apiece. Mark Vientos hit a grand slam, and Francisco Lindoor did it again. Also hit a solo homer.
Starting point is 00:02:22 The series now shifts to Queens City Field for games tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. both the Mets and the Yankees are in series that are best of seven.
