In sports news, the New York Liberty beat the Las Vegas Aces 87-73 to force a Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. Plus, the New York Jets hand the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season at home.

Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC Now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Monday, October 16th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. New York Senator Chuck Schumer says he and other U.S. officials were rushed to shelter yesterday while in Israel. Senators arrived in Tel Aviv over the weekend to meet with Israeli leaders over the current Israel-Hamas war. Schumer and his group were forced to take shelter from Hamas rockets. We're having a lunch up in the hotel, and the sirens went off, we heard them, and we were all rushed into a shelter and had to stay there until the coast was clear.
Starting point is 00:00:43 The conflict in the Middle East is finding its way to New York City. New Yorkers have protested in Times Square in the city's college campuses in support of either Israel or the Palestinians. A Staten Island Park that will ultimately be almost three times the size of Central Park opened a new section over the weekend. NYC's Tiffany Hanson has more. When finished, Fresh Kills Park will be the largest park developed in New York City in more than 100 years. It sits on the site of the 2,200-acre Fresh Kills Landfill, once the largest landfill site in the world. The landfill closed in 2001 and construction of the park began in 2008. Parks officials say Fresh Kills will feature kayak launches, horseback riding trails and large-scale art installations. The 21-acre North Park section opened on Sunday with a view of the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge. Additional areas will open in phases through 2036.
Starting point is 00:01:42 The New York Liberty are still alive. John Quell Jones scored 27 points, and Brianna Stewart added another 20 to help the Liberty beat the Las Vegas Aces. 87 is 73 and force a game four of the WNVA finals. The Liberty struggled in the first two games in this series, but found their shooting touch, game three behind Jones, who hit four of the team's 13 three-pointers. This was the Liberty's first win in the WMBA final since 1999. The Aces lead the series, two to one in the best of five series. Game four is Wednesday night in Brooklyn. And the New York Jets handed to Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season yesterday at MetLife Stadium, 20 to 14, but the New York
