Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC Now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Thursday, October 17th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. Manhattan's Elizabeth Street Garden has gotten a lifeline. A last-minute court filing gives the popular Soho Green Space until October 30th to avoid eviction. The city wants to build affordable senior housing on the garden side. Advocates say there are better places for the device.

Our lawyers, the city remains confident that there is no basis for an appeal. The Guard's eviction day was originally set for today. The last minute change means that city marshal won't be able to padlock the space for at least two. more weeks. A 17-year-old is being charged with driving the wrong way on the Henry Hudson Parkway in Manhattan and killing two people. WN.M.C.'s Julia Hayward reports. According to court records, Jimmy Connors allegedly drove his pickup truck southbound while on the northbound lane on the
Starting point is 00:01:22 parkway in August. The 17-year-old hit a car that cousins Kirk Walker and Robert McLaren were riding in. They were both later pronounced dead. Connors, who, who prosecutors say fled the scene was detained by the authorities the next day. Authorities say he had been attempting to flee through the Canadian border. Conn's attorney did not respond to request for a comment from WNYC. Governor Kathy Hokel says she's satisfied with the personnel changes in Mayor Adams' office. The governor says she told the mayor she's happy with the turnover. What I said was that I feel he has done what I asked him to do, which was to clean house.
Starting point is 00:02:02 I'm not divulging more about personal conversation, but that was pretty significant. A handful of the mayor's top aides and appointees have resigned since the mayor was indicted on fraud charges late last month. That includes First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and top advisor Tim Pearson, who have attracted attention from investigators. Hoke will held an event yesterday with the new First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres Springer. The governor has the power to remove the mayor from office, but so far she's declined to do so. 46 and clear now, sunny and 59 with a breeze today. Mostly clear in 46.9.
