Welcome to NYC now.

It's Monday, October 21st.
Here's the morning headlines.
I'm Jene Pierre.
Mayor Eric Adams' plan to fuel more housing development by changing local zoning laws is heading to a council vote later this year.
But first, everyday New Yorkers are getting their chance to sign off on the proposal.
Here's WMYC's David Brand.
Members of the public can voice their opinions about the City of Yes Plan at a council hearing tomorrow at 9.30 a.m.
New Yorkers can sign up to testify on the council's website.
The City of Yes Plan would pave the way from more housing development in every neighborhood in the five boroughs.
The proposal would permit an extra unit on single-family lots, allow more homes near train stations, and make it easier to convert empty offices to apartments.
Adam says it's key to addressing the city's deep housing shortage.
Council members are also questioning city officials about the proposal at a hearing today.
New York City's new first deputy mayor, Maria Torres Springer, is not in favor of delaying the closure of Soho's popular Elizabeth Street Garden.
On the show The Point with Marcia Kramer, Torres Springer said delaying the project that would build housing on the site would, quote, betray seniors in need of affordable housing.
The mayor, I think, said it best. We're not disputing the beauty of the Elizabeth Street.
garden. But we have to also think about the beauty that we create when we provide low-income
seniors with the type of housing that they need. Mayor Adams says he will not intervene to preserve
the garden which sits on city-owned land. The garden's operators have leased the site from the
city for years. A last-minute court filing last week extended the garden's eviction deadline to
October 30th. The New York Liberty are champions after an overtime thriller. They beat the
Minnesota Lynx Sunday night at Barclays Center 67 to 62 to secure the team's first ever WMBA
title. The Libs and the Links had been locked in a classic back and fourth final series. This was the
second overtime game and both teams had won on the road before last night's winter take all game five.
John Quo Jones was named Finals MVP. It's 55 degrees. It'll be sunny today with the high around 78.
