The MTA group in charge of figuring out how much to charge drivers for congestion pricing
is preparing its recommendations after their final public meeting.
WNYC, Stephen Nesson explains.
Reving their engines and doing laps around MTA headquarters,
nearly a dozen motorcycle riders were there to send a message.
Why shouldn't motorcycles, which are exponentially smaller, by orders of magnitude, pay less?
That's Cheryl Stewart with the group Riders Against Congestion.
The board is recommending box trucks pay twice as much as regular vehicles,
and large trucks pay three times as much.
It's also proposing credits for drivers that cross a bridge or tunnel to enter the zone
between $4 to $7, but it hasn't answered the biggest cost.

A new report on anti-Asian racism in New York City and the nation urges officials to do more
to bring bias out into the open. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights delivered its bipartisan
report to President Biden late last week while we were in the throes of a storm on Friday.
The report notes many incidents go unreported in New York City because of lack of trust in police.
Glenn Mugpuntai, the lone Asian American on the panel, says victims need to be taken seriously.
Asian Americans are the nation's fastest-growing racial minority group in the country.
We have the largest segment of immigrants coming to the United States, and yet we are still overlooked, forgotten, and marginalized.
The report urges police to high officers fluent in Asian languages and for first responders to know the hate crimes law in their jurisdictions,
Anti-Asian hate crime reports and the city rose from 1 in 2019 to 131 in 2021.
