Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WMYC. It's Monday, October 7th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. The NYPD is ordering officers to be ready to deploy to any large protest today on the first anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attacks. WNYC's Bahar Ostadon has the details. The NYPD has been upping security around the Jewish.
Starting point is 00:00:32 high holy days, beginning with Rush Ashana last week and ending with Yom Kippur this Friday. Police officials have deployed additional officers to Jewish places of worship. They've also set up more than 50 cameras to quote key locations around the city and deployed canine teams to do sweeps. The NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism assured New Yorkers who feel uneasy that the police department takes many of these measures every day. The directive ordering officers to be ready today began at 12.01 a.m. Police are looking for a suspect linked to a series of burglary's targeting businesses across Queens in August. Authorities say the burglar broke into eight businesses, mostly in the early
Starting point is 00:01:16 morning hours. The thieves stole amounts ranging from $100 to $6,500 from cash registers before getting away. The NYPD has released surveillance photos showing the suspect where a hoodie with the lower half of their face covered and carrying a backpack. Police advise anyone with information about the incidents to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline. In the WNBA, the New York Liberty are off to the final. Sabrina INSQ rebounded from a rare off game to scores from 22 points. Nearly a year after the Aces ended the Liberty's dream of a championship, New York returned the favor yesterday by defeating Vegas,
Starting point is 00:01:58 76 to 62 to advance to the WNBA finals. The top-seated Liberty will have home court advantage in the championship series and will face either the Connecticut Sun, you don't want to face them, or Minnesota Linux. This is the Liberty's sixth trip to the finals, but the franchise is still seeking its first title. And by the way, the Mets lost yesterday, the Yankees won, the Giants won, but the Jets lost. Shows by 8 this morning. Then it's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 o'clock and between noon as well, a high of 72. Then tonight mostly clear chilly in 54.
