Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
A new underground market for short-term rentals is spawning after New York City
began to enforce restrictions on Airbnb and other platforms a week ago.
WNYC's David Brandt reports.
It's out with the old, in with the older.
At least when it comes to the same.
skirting the city's latest short-term rental rules, which block payments on Airbnb and other
platforms for stays under 30 days.
Hosts say they're now turning to Craigslist and Facebook to advertise their apartments.
Others are using good old-fashioned word of mouth or reaching out to previous guests.
Some other platforms are also letting people list apartments with nightly rates, but hosts and guests
have to figure out payment on their own.
Short-term rentals are illegal in most cases, and critics say they remove needed apartments from
the housing market.
The city's Office of Special Enforcement says it'll continue its complaint-based investigations.
Governor Kathy Hockel says she's sending 50 members of the National Guard to Long Island to prepare for potential impacts from Hurricane Lee.
While the National Hurricane Center says Lee is not forecast to make landfall in New York State,
Governor Hockel says it could still cause dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding in the immediate area.
Whether it's sandbanking, whether there's any rescue necessary, whatever purpose they would.
mean, so I wanted to let the public know we're already anticipating the worst and hoping for the
best in sending those individuals out there. Leads a Category 3 hurricane, though forecasters say it's
expected to weaken as it enters cooler waters. New Yorkers can sign up for weather alerts
from the state at alert.n.y.gov. New York Jets fans had been hoping this would be the year.

but the arrival this year of Star quarterback and four-time MVP, Aaron Rogers, left some of the Jets faithful thinking they may have found the weapon that would bring them back to glory.
That weapon lasted just four snaps in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night football before injuring his Achilles tendon.
New Jersey resident William Hartley says he had a feeling it was too.
