It's Tuesday, September 17th.
Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill.
Federal authorities arrested Sean Diddy Combs late yesterday in New York,
where he faces a sealed criminal indictment.
A stream of women in recent months have accused the hip-hop mogul of sexual assault.
Combs' lawyer told the New York Times he believes the grand jury indicted Combs for
racketeering and sex trafficking. The attorney called the prosecution unfair. The charges come from
an investigation of Combs that was revealed when Homeland Security agents raided his homes in Los Angeles
and Miami back in March. Two people are in critical condition after a chaotic police shooting
Sunday inside a Brooklyn subway station. Police say officers open fire striking a man in a fair
evasion pursuit, plus two bystanders and an officer. Officials say,
they'd been chasing Daryl Mickels when he refused to stop officers.
Say they tried to tase him, which proved ineffective, and Mickles pulled a knife.
Gloria Holloway's Mickles' mother, she says when she arrived home from her night shift as a security guard,
she found an NYPD business card at her door.
They shot him at the train station?
So they just shot him and didn't bother to get in touch with nobody who's related to him
and leave a card here at the damn door?
Police say both Mickles and a bystander had been shot in the head remain in critical condition this morning.
Police officials have not shared details on what caused the gunshots to wound multiple people.
A new survey finds a majority of New York City public school teachers support a citywide ban on cell phones in school.
WNYC's Jessica Gould reports.
According to the Teachers Union survey, 63% of respondents say therefore a system-wide ban on cell phones.
at schools. However, 40% of teachers at schools that already do have bans in place say they
aren't working because of poor planning. Going forward, educators say they don't want to be the
only line of enforcement. Consequences need to be clear and consistent, and the education
department should cover costs, not individual schools. After signaling this summer that a ban
announcement was imminent, Mayor Eric Adams pumped the brakes. He now says officials are reviewing best
practices with a broader policy possible next September.
