Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to NYC Now. Your source for local news in and around New York City from WNYC. It's Wednesday, September 27th. Here's the morning headlines from Michael Hill. The Adams administration plans to appeal a judge's order for the city to remove migrants housed at an emergency shelter at a former Catholic school on Staten Island. Judge Wayne Ozzy yesterday ruled in favor of neighbors and elected officials suing the city for using the city-owned St. John's Villa Academy as an emergency shelter. In his decision,
Starting point is 00:00:38 the judge said the right to shelter does not exist. The city has adhered to that law so far in dealing with the migraine crisis. A spokesperson from Mayor Adams says City Hall is not removing anyone from the shelter. A New York judge says former President Trump committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame in the White House in the civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, the judge found Trump and his company to see banks, insurers, and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing.
Starting point is 00:01:16 The ruling resolves the key claim in the state AG's lawsuit, but six others remain. Judge, James, rather, is seeking $250 million in penalties and a ban on Trump doing business in his home state of New York. A 25-year-old accused of robbing a prominent Brooklyn pastor at gunpoint during a live-streamed service last year, backed out of a plea deal yesterday moments before appearing in federal court. WMIC, Samantha Maxx, explains. Police say Seekwan Pollack was part of a group that stole about $1 million worth of jewelry from Bishop Lamore Whitehead while he was preaching in his Brooklyn church last year.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Pollock and another man, Joan Anderson, have been indicted on robbery and gun charges. They've both pleaded not guilty and are now expected to stand trial next March. Police haven't found a third person they believe was also involved in the robbery. Whitehead told WNYC he was disappointed in Pollack's last-minute change of heart and that he and his family are still traumatized from the robbery. He's facing his own charges in Manhattan federal court for alleged fraud and extortion, which he has denied. The New York Liberty tied up their best-to-five playoff series with the Connecticut Sun
