New York City Mayor Eric Adams is standing firm in refusing to step down despite mounting pressure
following his recent federal indictment on corruption and bribery charges.

Adams entered a not guilty plea on Friday to multiple federal charges, including bribery after a lengthy
investigation that has shaken the city. He's scheduled to return to court on Wednesday for a meeting
with the judge presiding over his case. Beginning Tuesday, rent increases will take effect
for New York City's rent-stabilized apartments. Costs will rise by
by 2.75% for one-year leases and up to 5.25% for two-year leases, affecting around a million
apartments across the five boroughs. The decision by the Rent Guidelines Board was met
with criticism from both tenants and landlords, with tenants worried about affordability and
landlords concerned about rising costs. The compounding annual increases over three years marks
a sharp contrast from board votes under Adams' predecessor. During former Mayor Bill de Blasio's
eight years in office, the board voted three.
