New York City Mayor Eric Adams is standing firm in refusing to step down despite mounting pressure following his recent federal indictment on corruption and bribery charges. The mayor made a public appearance at Emmanuel Presbyterian Reform Church in the Bronx earlier Sunday.

Adams entered a not guilty plea on Friday to multiple federal charges, including bribery after a lengthy investigation that has shaken the city. He's scheduled to return to court on Wednesday for a meeting with the judge presiding over his case. Beginning Tuesday, rent increases will take effect for New York City's rent-stabilized apartments. Costs will rise by by 2.75% for one-year leases and up to 5.25% for two-year leases, affecting around a million apartments across the five boroughs. The decision by the Rent Guidelines Board was met with criticism from both tenants and landlords, with tenants worried about affordability and
Starting point is 00:01:19 landlords concerned about rising costs. The compounding annual increases over three years marks a sharp contrast from board votes under Adams' predecessor. During former Mayor Bill de Blasio's eight years in office, the board voted three. times to freeze rents and never approved an increase above 1.5%. The New York Liberty have made it through game one of their semifinal series. Brianna Stewart scored 34 points and Sabrina UNESCO had 21 to help the Liberty beat the Las Vegas Aces 87 to 77 on Sunday. Game two of the Best of five matchup is Tuesday night in New York. This is a rematch of last season's WMBA finals that the ACEs won in four games. The Liberty
