Mayor Adams' latest comments on New York City's migrant crisis have sparked controversy. WNYC's Elizabeth Kim reports on what the mayor said at a town hall event. Venting his frustrations over a lack of sufficient federal help, the mayor echoed a message he expressed in April.

The mayor says the crisis, which is costing New York billions of dollars, will strain the delivery of every city's service. Adams' comments drew praise from some Republicans, including presidential candidate Vivek Ramoswami, who is called for the closing of the southern border.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Progressives, meanwhile, accused the mayor of stoking anti-immigrant sentiment. The U.S. Open was attracting a lot of attention for reasons beyond tennis, after climate activists held a protest last night in flushing. Several demonstrators were wearing shirts urging people to end fossil fuels, and one of them glued their bare feet to the floor. Play was interrupted for just over 45 minutes, while police. remove the demonstrators. A group called Extinction Rebellion claimed responsibility for the incident. They say they want to bring attention to the climate crisis and cited how even this
Starting point is 00:01:39 year's open has been subject to extreme heat. Governor Phil Murphy is tapping New Jersey Secretary of State Tahitia Way to be the state's new lieutenant governor. WNYC confirmed the pick with an administration source who had knowledge of the decision but wasn't authorized to disclose it ahead of a formal announcement expected today. Way has served in her current role in Murphy's administration since his inauguration in 2018. As Secretary of State, she oversaw the 2020 election in New Jersey, which was largely conducted via mail due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She will replace Murphy's former lieutenant governor, Sheila Oliver.
